that's Nadal's excuse sorted!
![]() did you just see the interview with Inverdale? Poor Andy playing in Cincy on Weds is it too much to hope that his opponent gives him a w/o? |

So, final thoughts on the Olympics? I thoroughly enjoyed what I actually got to see anyway, best matches would be Delpo/Djokovic, Delpo/Nadal and Puig/Kerber. Whatever your thoughts on whether or not tennis should be at the Olympics, I doubt anyone can deny that it adds a fascinating dimension to the tour. Seeing just what playing for their countries can drive a player to do, most obviously in the case of Monica Puig, is terrific to watch. Delpo's return to form and Puig's shock gold are no doubt the stories of the tournament imo, as well as Murray's second gold. Hat tip as well to the always terrific Venus who continues to defy the odds. Imagine, she's closer to 40 than she is 30 and she's still winning Olympic medals. It of course sets an intriguing stage for the weeks ahead, primarily will Delpo and Puig bring their form to the regular tour events? Is Murray now the favourite for the US Open? Will Djokovic get back on track? Exciting times ahead

I was too shattered to post last night, but what a match. Awesome play by them both and an absolute feat of endurance. I've never seen a more genuine looking hug at the end of a match, either.
Brilliant stuff, very emotional and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Delpo. |

Poor Rafa couldn't even get a Chinese, he was sat at the airport. https://twitter.com/tcote/status/764967852331921413 |

From the high of Olympic triumph to the low of being interviewed by Inverdrivel. I did like how Andy corrected him and said Serena & Venus were the first to defend their Olympic title in doubles.
It was nice of Andy to mention the incredible success of the Williams sisters, and it showed how much respect he has for their achievements, but it's obvious what was intended. It's OK to admire Andy's unique achievement without it being sexist, and forgetting to include the word "singles" doesn't make you sexist either. No woman, not even Serena, has defended a singles gold. Murray should be proud and we should be proud and not looking for an excuse to complain at the tv presenter who fluffed his lines. |

I didn't post last night as I was exhausted and highly emotional! Not a good combination.
Firstly, Congratulations to Andy on successfully defending his Olympic title and winning gold again. Some summer he's having! ![]() Secondly, I'm so proud of Delpo. The players he defeated to reach the final. The way he played. I'm so happy and thrilled that he got the silver medal and went one better than London!

![]() ![]() It's so strange to think there is another tennis tournament happening while the Olympics is still on (weather permitting). I don't think i'll be paying it too much attention and expect swift exits for Rafa and Andy. |

I don't think i'll be paying it too much attention and expect swift exits for Rafa and Andy. At least we should have a new non "Big 4" winner of MS event, assuming Jo doesn't win it. The most annoying thing about USO is that Delp isn't ranked in the top 32. Unless there's a fluke of the draw he's bound to get a seed in the first two rounds, which sucks for him (and obviously whoever he's picked against). Assuming of course that USO does the decent thing and gives him a wild card. It would be ridiculous that if a former champ, current silver medallist and effectively a top 10 player on form right now was made to go through the qualies. |

![]() Novak had a poor Wimby and an unfortunate Olympics draw, but he did just win an MS event before heading down to Rio (without playing his best). Fully rested he's still the main to beat at Flushing Meadows. |

Tough for Kerber and Puig to have to follow that match, Haven't see Puig play all week so can't really judge her level, but I'm expecting a relatively easy win for Kerber.
I had never seen her play before. I saw she beat Garbine, and someone on here said she played really well, but I was like yeah, whatever, since she really never did "anything". Wow. |

Too emotional to take the match in last night. Watching now what a match. Kudos to both players particularly Delpo who was running on fumes more than Andy.
I am so happy. Just love Andy. Most genuine player out there. Sleep is for wimps. Sleep is for wimps. |

I thought it was a great final , conrats to Monica Puig . Disappointed in Kerber she seemed to offer a perfunctory handshake at the end.

No change there there.

I've always found her to be a bit of a moody so and so and not very sporting, unless she wins when she's all smiles and compliments for the opponent.

I don't think it was the warmest of handshakes from Angelique. Maybe she underestimated Monica and was disappointed in her performance and not winning gold

See for yourself.
![]() It saved MP and basically won Timea and Hingis the match as well as gifting bronze to Lucie and Strycova the following day. Shoulødnt there be some rule that when a player injures another player, albeit unintentionally, they lose the match? (Or then probably "everyone" starts getting serious injuries) |

Very meekly and then went on to complain about how long the MTO was.
You don't get any compassion from Hingis. ![]()

You see this is why I don't like Hingis.
It comes over as being selfish And I still remember the episode in Paris v Steffi in 1999 It was kind of fun, in a way... Then she lost 1R to Dokic at W a few weks later... |

Rafa is fuming about something and talking to a match official. Did anyone pick up what he was going on about, was it Kei's off court break time?
Edit oh yeah... he was complaining because it took 11 minutes. Quote:
No dictating the pace of matches (slow play, MTOs) and just about staying wtihin the rules enough to get away with it. Most of the top players do it. No point moaning about Nishikori doing it now.

Anyway. Was ablt to watch the womans final. Amazing quality from Puig, playing her biggest match of her career by far, probably for the third time in a row.
She was so good. AK didn't play badly, just Monica was so much better. I was a bit worried in the third. Had she lost that 5-1 game, it could have gone either way I think. Just hope she can continue like this. She should be in the top 5 if she continues like this, but you just never know. Poor sportsmanship from AK. Not surprised. Also her "smile" after was one of the weridest ever. She really isn't a nice person is she? Delighted for JMDP and Kei. Would have preferred to see JMDP take the gold, but you cant have it all
