It was Damian Dumosois who did Murrays match with Raonic last night

I am sure Andy plays to spite people. He is so bloody minded.
He actually looked a lot better and seemed to have got rid of his niggles. Maybe he needed an ordinary tournament to blow the cobwebs of olympics away.

Is Andy the best in the world at taming the big servers? He may be ahead of Novak I think.

He seems to enjoy playing them, neutralises the serve fairly comfortably. Although people like Raonic are broadening their game so he's just going to become a tougher opponent in the future.

If I'm looking at this correctly, at the start of 2016, Andy h2h against Milos was 3-3. It's now 8-3, Andy has won every single time they've played this year (although I understand he was a bit lucky at the Aus and he was definitely lucky at Queens). Poor Milos!

Andy vs Cilic in the final then.

Reading some comments on Tennis.com and someone suggested something so blatantly obvious I don't get why it hasn't been done.

Every 4 four years when there's an Olympics extend the tennis season by one week. Push back Cincy plus all other tournaments after it and give players an extra week to recover.

2020 is going to be a bit ridiculous with players supposedly flying from North America to Japan and then back again over three weeks. Give the players an extra week and we'll probably see less withdrawals.

No.

Novak doesn't stand as far back as Andy, meaning he can dictate the rally easier.

They both negate the serve pretty well, but Novak gets on the front foot faster.

Haha. I don't think Serena cares about the #1 or the consecutive record, and she is not unlikely to retake #1 this season, even if she will have less than 200 points on AK if AK wins today.

Agreed.

So much pressure last year.
Much less so this year

Did I hear correct Laira Robson WC qualifying US Open.

Last week she won a $25k event in the USA. A friend of mine has said of her earlier firm this year, struggling back to back wins, he thinks it has been as much getting her head into believing she can win.

Although it is a long road to Fkushing Meadow, I hope Laura can get some wins under her belt.

Really hope Pliskova can stop Kerber from #1.

Shes one of these players always under radar and I have no idea why she's ranked so high, probably because she never does well in Slams.

Will be interesting to see how nervous AK is. It's not often we have a new #1 so the pressure is tyhere. Just see how she deals with it...

That's exactly it. She's got a very nice game imo, but just can't do anything at the slams. Remarkable that she's never even had one decent slam run, the players that she can find a way to lose to is incredible.

She props her hopelessness in slams by vulturing here, there and everywhere in between.

Without the serve she'd be nowhere.

Mirza and Strycova have won the doubles at Cincinnati, beating Vanderweghe and Hingis in final

Nice one Mirza/Strycova

You could make a case. Fed is also up there as he has terrific reflexes and a world-class block return...so the body serve is ineffective.

That's good, as Andy's h2h against Milos always annoyed me. Now Andy has momentum and is in his head.

Nole can become frustrated by the big servers who continually hit the corners (Ivo).

Andy probably gets more big serves back into play, but a fair few of them sit up in mid court for the big server to complete the 1-2 punch. Nole is very adept at taking compact swings against 1st serves and getting it back deep and central. He can also hit return winners DTL, whereas Andy will prefer the CC return 9 times out of 10.

Nope she was just on a wind-up wanting to do a great big soppy thank you message to everyone on winning the mixed dubs gold. Not retiring, starting a family, etc.

Pliskobot defeats Kerber, saving Serena at no.1 in the process.

Yeah just checked and it was the same umpire who accused him of twice hitting the ball at him in the Monte Carlo SF. Probably just be a coincidence but may be more to it.

Murray v's Cilic just started

Murray looking a lot sharper and eager to win (Better than he's been this week that is)

Murray played well in the first four games, then went walkabout Cilic breaks 4-2 30-40 on Murray's serve not looking good at all
