Great news for Robbo.

She could potentially draw Watson or Broady couldn't she? You wouldn't bet against her if she did!

Great for Laura even a win in R1 will give her so much confidence. Think her being back at her best will really push Heather on next year too, in the sort of transitional phase wta is in at the moment Hav, Laura and Jo could all really push on

Well done Laura! Although the wait for her rematch with Genie goes on. They could potentially meet in the 3rd round, but it's a long shot. Laura probably has a greater chance of getting there though tbqh

Robson against Broady an interesting one a rare all British contest at a grand slam. Getting into R2 will be great for either of them

Think Laura is around 245 in the rankings, she could move back inside top 200 with a win against Naomi

Ruthless.

Broady it is then for Laura, had a feeling destiny was going to throw against a fellow Brit. Even a loss is still 10 points to her ranking and who knows, she could yet pull a surprise now she's on a roll and got the winning feeling back again.

Townsend v Wozniacki is another one to the tasty collection now the qualifiers have been shuffled into the deck.

It's a winnable match for her, and no split loyalties from me as Broady's game is appalling.

Been such a turnaround for Laura, I'll admit during some of these terrible results, I'd lost faith she'd ever come back properly. She clearly still had the game, but the confidence and mentality had gone, and many players in that spiral don't get those things back.

Last year Konta came through qualifying, made the 4th round and carried her run on to a top 20 world ranking.

So that's something to emulate.

Consistency has always been a weak point of Laura's, even more so given the injury and the set-backs. It's true what they say that it can take just as long as the sabbatical itself to get back to being something like their old self. Laura's had to relearn all the basics of tennis all over again, the timing of the ball, pace, everything that they all take for granted. She's admitted that herself that it's been a steep learning curve.

Kvitova's playing some poor tennis tonight.

She needs to do something about her ball toss...

Serena v Makarova in R1. Never realised Makarova had slipped out of the seedings.

I will be rooting for Laura. Apart from her serve Naomi is poor for me and I am not keen on her attitude.

Reusable post is reusable Petra's in deep trouble, defending 430 points at the US Open too. If she doesn't do well there then she'll surely be out of Singapore, where she's supposed to be defending 730 points. Could be out of top 20 by the end of the season. You never know though, she could win the bloody US Open in a couple of weeks, it'd be such a Petra thing to do to win another slam at one that's always been her worst.

Serena-Makarova is a very interesting first-rounder. I mean, Serena will still surely win, but it's still a tricky one to begin your campaign with.

Thanks for that link.

This from Laura herself:

Quote:
“"It's funny, I've played so many British people over the last few weeks in the Challengers that as soon as I saw Heather and Naomi had drawn qualifiers, I just had that feeling that I was going to play one of them.

"Naomi's playing pretty well - she's got a big serve and a big forehand so I'm just going to try and get as many returns in as possible.

"I think winning a tournament was probably a bit better but it's just been a lot of matches in a row now. With every one, I'm getting a bit more confidence and feeling better closing it out.

"Even when my ball toss is going haywire, I'm not panicking about it, I'm just taking it a point at a time and it seems to be working."”

Just for qualifying she get 40 points so a first round win would push her back in the top 200.

I feel what Laura lacks is confidence not ability. This run of win has to prove to her she can do it again and will hopefully be a catalyst to move her back toward the top 100

Laura's match point reaction

Also, nice outfit!

Not so keen on Taylor Townsend wearing it though...
