heather's injury got the better of her in the final 2 games and she's out. She might not have completed the match if it had gone to a third set.

Heather's wait for a win at the USO (at least def in singles) goes on....

Good Evans - Dan wins the 3rd set to lead by 2 sets to 1.

One thing about all this neon is you wouldn't lose them in the dark!!

Very well played Dan - won 8 of the last 9 games to win 3 sets to 1.

Probably won't happen though.”

She's inflamed her wrist again, (no sniggering now! ) and is considering having wrist surgery. I don't see the point myself, she's been steadily declining for a while now and it's not worth the risk of having surgery and the effort it would take to make a comeback from that. Go and enjoy married life instead.

My word. Camille Georgi looks very pleasing on the eye in that pink number

Robson and Broady about to get under way.

Didn't realise how tall Broady is. She casts a long shadow on court.

The stands look very Rioesque. I.e lots of empty places. Can't call them seats as they are giant steps.

My musings:

Watson - Poor again, needs a new coach.

Evans - Good win, could cause an upset against Zverev.

Robson v Broady - Want Laura to win this, find Naomi's style quite boring.

This match has been more even than I expected. I still think Robson will win it.

I've been thinking throughout the US Open, that this is the worst grand slam in terms of atmosphere.

Did you even watch the match? She was struggling for breath and trying not to vomit her guts up all over the court. She's got a fever and going to have blood tests, obviously fearful of when she had glandular fever that time.

Yeah I did, I thought it was more her back giving her grief.

But still, she's had a poor year (other than that title in Mexico).

A half fit Heather Watson should still be beating someone like Hogenkamp, although I might be being too harsh.

Nice to see Laura back on form, finally! Well, better than she was anyway.

It would be nice to see her have a good run here.

Laura Robson wins an even first set 7-4. The set got better as it went on. Some good serving from both players in the latter stages.

You can see the confidence back in her game and she kept her head, chasing the scoreboard to pinch the set that could've gone either way.

I do feel sorry for Heather, she just really struggles to get a run of form going and then when things look to be going better (her win) it then all goes wrong again. She may find herself out of the top 100 if she doesn't turn it around soonish.

Genie slips out in 3 against Siniakova. Better get that settlement sorted soon.

She really did look beautiful, like a perfect little barbie doll - I mean that in a nice way.

Great win for Tipsy against Querrey - it's been a long road back.

Me too - she is a lovely person and she can win - we saw that at Wimbledon in the mixed. I think she has also been unlucky in regards to her fitness and health as well. I really hope it's not something too serious.

Just realised, if Ange Kerber goes further than Serena in the tournament, she would be the new world #1!

Goffin on the wrong end of a bagel and tumbles out to Jared Donaldson 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-0

The seeds, they are a-falling!

Angie can be no.1 without having to go further than Serena, unless they meet in the winner takes all final.

I think it's finally safe to say the no.1 is done, Serena's shoulder is knackered and she has to make the SFs minimum and that's before all the other myriad of combos.
