I've been a Sky TV customer since the mid 90s, every year the US Open has been on Sky Sports, every year at the end of August I phone up Sky & order Sky Sports & cancel it at the same time (you have to have it for a minimum of one month & give one month's notice to cancel) so that I can watch it (I can't afford it all year round & frankly I'm not enough of a sports enthusiast to warrant it); this year I did exactly the same & the call handler asked me why I was getting Sky Sports for only a month & I told him (this was his cue to tell me that Sky Sports is not showing the US Open this year but he didn't), come Monday when the tournament started I switched on Sky Sports only to find that it wasn't on, I flicked through the sport channels & found it on Eurosport, now Eurosport comes free with the TV package I subscribe to, as far as I'm concerned I can be forgiven for assuming it would be on Sky Sports as usual, I phoned Sky & asked for a refund, I was given a partial refund (£15 out of the £27 I paid).
Well two things really:

- You cant expect someone there to be aware of every single thing that Sky shows
- Its been discussed on these boards that Sky Sports wont be showing the US Open, so next time look/ask on here first before assuming its on there again.

Did I dream that Garbine match last night? I can't quite believe it was real. She's thrown in a few matches where she looks like she has walked on court by mistake, bizarre. She must be fuming with herself, which will only make it worse. I wonder what her relationship with Sam Sumyk is like at the moment, because he may jump ship if this carries on.

Don't be the next Ivanovic I beg you Garbine. We should just remember that it has only been about 4 months, some of which was off season. So not that long. Things could turn around next season.

On the positive Rafa looked good, and Jim Broadbent has been cast in Season 7 of Game of Thrones, so its not all bad.
The manner of the loss is the worst thing. I can accept that players have bad days at the office, I can't accept players not giving a shit and slotting the ball into play hoping to draw errors from their opponent because they've got nowhere left to go. So overall, 2016 was a step forward for Garbine. She beat the world's best player to win her first grand slam, but on the flip side, she flopped at the other three, posting losses to Strycova, Cepelova and Sevastova along the way. Hmm.

What can I say? Garby girl just loves proving me wrong Also Jaccobabe, you've been here long enough, please learn to multi-quote

I almost did the same thing actually, easy mistake to make!

Do you work for Sky or something? You've continually sniped at anybody who criticises them

Have I?

Very odd. No I dont. Just think it is foolish to assume something without checking, thats all.

I actually prefer only having the US Open on Eurosport as I dont have Sky Sports these days, so that blows your theory out the water

guy probably didn't care though as it would count as an all important sale. If he'd told you then you wouldnt've signed up....definitely not right though!

Or he didnt know. Having done that kind of job in the past, believe me its absolutely impossible to know every single thing.

I suppose I must work for Sky with that attitude, huh

Re: Sky & US Open - I have no dog in this race but...

Every year in recent memory Sky has fun promos stating what exciting sport they will be showing during the summer months (be it cricket, golf, latterly F1 and previously US Open tennis).

This year they didn't do that. Every summer promo they ran pointedly didn't mention having the US Open, that would make question that they were showing.

Ashe may have a roof but the acoustics be it open or closed are very loud. Watching in US at the moment and Mr McEnroe wasn't happy. Umpire kept telling crowd to be quiet but they were the same as usual only magnified.

I don't think its a case of not caring, I think its more worrying than that. Its the complete lack of strategy or new ideas, no plan B. She looks like she doesn't know what to do, so the only thing she can do is keep the ball in play. She's not even pushing to extract errors, she's hoping and its not nice to watch. She's turning into Genie isn't she? (post Wimbledon final).

Some of Genie's issues were health and model related though, as well as the playing.

I didn't realise Genie had health issues, was it reported at the time?

she got really thin afterwards, leading to various worries. I think she's now said it was stress related?

I've just had a google, she says she found it difficult to eat because of stress. I have every sympathy for her in that situation, her description sounds like issues I have had. Although the pressures were obviously very different for her, an eating problem while burning so many calories is brutal. Hopefully her improvement this season is a sign that she is handling it all better, most importantly her health. So this being the case, I absolutely don't want Garbine to be like Genie.

A lot of the players that've played on Ashe have been saying they can't hear when the ball is being struck.

The same noise level as a food blender, apparently!

She only started getting thin after she started losing though. I think she's a one trick pony, taking the ball early, she's been found out, defeat her with angles, give her no pace..

Muguruza is a much better player, so it really is just mental with her.

The rain seems determined to follow the tour around, at least the new roof is getting put to good use already.

Simona's Vika shorts are awful.

Vika's Vika shorts are pretty iffy. I like the fact that she wears shorts but they could be more flattering. The skirt version of Simona's shorts are much better.

All that money and they can't get it right. Sound levels were not a consideration.
As somebody on Twitter said they should have taken the top layer off but they would have lost big bucks.
Now saying light isn't good. Bit dim.

It must be absolutely sweltering under that roof. Even hotter than if it was dry and sunny?

Don't they regulate the temperature like Wimbledon do? Do Wimbledon do that? I can't actually remember now!

If I was a tennis player then I'd wear shorts not a skirt - I don't want people seeing my knickers.

The 'knickers' are shorts though aren't they? Granted they could be bigger, but they are double layered under there. Personally I'd wear shorts or full leggings if the weather allowed.

That Ashe stadium is never full.

You never see a half empty centre court in any of the other 3 grand slams.
