There may possibly be a non big 4 winner in this US Open and/or perhaps the 2017 Aussie Open regardless whether or not it's from the new generation.

Mid 2017 into 2018 we really ought to see the transition from the current era big 4 to the new generation taking over from mid 2018 (with Nadal, Djokovic and/or Murray still perhapd chipping in the odd grand slam title from that point).

Mid 2019 to onwards it's out of the question that the present era big 4 of Djokovic, Murray and Nadal from then until beyond their mid 30's will still almost totally dominate and sharing almost all the grand slam titles, olympic singles golds and masters 1000 titles between them. To think that Nadal will be able to thrash all comers before almost every grand slam semi final at 33 years of age only losing to Murray or Djokovic at worst the way he did in his mid 20's would be ridiculous to say the least. Nobody has ever dominated that old in the open era after all.

Murray and Djokovic will not be the overwhelming top 2 favourites for olympic singles gold in 2024. They'll be 37 then.

I'm starting to think beating Garbine is good luck, she lost to Puig at the Olympics, and Pliskova at Cinci.... perhaps Sevastova is destined to win the US open? Let's be honest after last years final anything can happen.

I swear you keep all these saved to clipboard to copy and paste.

It will happen when it happens and no sooner. People have been trying to pack off Serena into retirement for the last decade, but she keeps on winning.

Not exactly, the dates and ages change. He'll be right eventually.

I've already noticed more new names coming through in the last year in both men's and women's tennis. Ok, so they may not be in the top 10, but I see a lot with potential to be there in the future if they stay on the right track. I don't remember seeing that in previous years. Either that or I'm just paying more attention.

Madison and Naomi almost accidentally playing with the men's tennis balls.

They have been there on the mens side, the generation after the big 4 failed to break through (except Cillic), so we are now seeing the generation after that coming up, which is why it seems like such a long time for the big 4 at the top. Hopefully Theim, Zverev, Kyrgios etc will do what the others couldn't. Dimitrov was supposed to be the next big star and he has been floundering for a while (though showing improvements).

These posts get wheeled out during every grand slam and they are almost identical, just the slight changes as you say.

My favourite thing about streaming tennis matches is when the stream just dies without warning and you've no idea whether it'll come back. Really adds to the fun

The men aren't really making a breakthrough though, they are capable of big results but not big Tournaments, as I say it can change in a blink of an eye with a brilliant performance, but as yet this is by far the worst time ever for up-and-coming men's tennis. Yes I know they've got some great players at the top, but there are plenty of relative journeymen that haven't been dislodged by the younger generation either.

The Woman's game isn't great with Serena dominating at her age, but at least there are some decent youngsters getting to slam semis and finals.

There is the fact that things in a whole lot of sports are skewing older though, I do realise I'm as boring the other way on this subject as David is, and I've even spreadsheets about it to my eternal shame

I just like fresh blood with a mix of the oldies staying around, it's not too much to ask is it?

That's what I was thinking today when I read about that hurricane in Florida. Something up with Cilic. He's missing a lot of first serves. Maybe he's injured or feeling the heat. Sock breaks to love in the 2nd.

I'm a bit torn about this Konta match, I'd really like Bencic to do well after her injuries.

Switching over from Keys-Osaka - two hit and hopers against each other doesn't make for pretty viewing.

Only two forehand winners from Osaka Obviously she's not being given a lot to work with, but I was expecting a bit more I think. Not over yet though.

But the real question is...

Is she a bigger star than the 'Queen of The North' that is, Naomi Broady?
