She's had a hand injury that's been bugging her on and off since the FO.
And there it is, Aga out. |

Ah that's right, she was getting it massaged at Wimbledon (against Cibulkova?) Clearly trying to play through the pain isn't working.

Oh no, that's totally passed me by. It makes sense then.

Why is Kerber's match not allowed to be broadcast?

Kerber has just broke and will now serve for the match.
Update: After a long game, Kerber finally serves it out and wins 6-4 in the final set. |

I've just realised, including today's opponent, Jo Konta's last four opponents have been American.

Excellent start for Konta, taking the first set 6-3.
Keys v Williams currently locked at 5-5 in the second set, with Keys having won the first set 6-1. |

Solid performance from Konta against Lepchenko 6-3 6-2.
Meanwhile, Keys v Venus, 4-2 to Keys in the third set. |

And Venus is out. Heather Watson about to start second round doubles with Mattek-Sands. Time for me to retire now for he night. Genie match should be interesting. Konta plays the winner of that match.

Further to my previous post, wasn't Nick too young to get on the original Pokemon bandwagon? It seemed to peak in 1999/2000, when he would be about 4-5. He lost to Shapovalov, who was born in 1999 so he was defo too young.

Oh dear, Thiem retired. As did Querrey, Chardy. Isner looked knackered after going deep in Washington. Errani withdrew. Feel for the Rogers Cup organisers at this point.
Thiem has played an awful lot in the first half of the year, and foolishly played Kitzbuhel last week. Wonder if he'll take his place in Los Cabos. Quote:
Belinda Bencic has withdrawn from Rio. Fair enough reasoning given her injury woes.
Does continue to put Hingis in a pickle though! Quote:
Yay, nice win for Genie, in fact that's two tough opponents she's beaten. I really want her to improve her ranking and confidence, just to see what her actual level is. Personally I feel top 20 is probably about where she should actually be. She's got an outside chance of reaching the semi's here in Montreal, just don't ruin it by losing to Kucova!
![]() Speaking of Genie, I found these sentences from the 'playing style' section of her poorly edited Wikipedia page funny Quote:
She will also make drastic and unpredictable changes in ball direction, which also causes many points won and winners, as her opponents don't know where she's going. However a lot of her shots tend to land outside the court, making the shot accuracy percentage very low.
![]() Also, sad to see some of the pictures from the upcoming Olympics. I had heard a lot about in the months gone by but I kinda assumed that it would be ready in time. Terrible to see that they haven't even finished the roof. Let's hope if it does rain it'll only affect one third of the stadium

Konta has had a very kind draw, has to be said. Hasnt played another seed yet and wont play one later on either. Good chance of going on and winning this now?

She has had a kind draw but came into the tournament with only a days rest and has aquited herself well. She would have to play everyday to win it which would mean playing a match nearly every day for two weeks.
She has been given the late match today which may help but yes, a good effort the last fortnight from her. If she wins later she goes up to 11th in the world and could go up to 9th or 10th depending on the other matches. Definitely some motivation there for her. |

Surely Konta can beat a qualifier? Although I'm taking nothing for granted. The commentators were talking last night about the possibility of making the WTA finals.

On the live rankings Andy's points have gone up and he hasn't played. All beyond me. Rafa's team are more confident of him taking part in the olympics after a good practice with Andy. Keeping my fingers crossed he can play again. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...s-wrist-injury |

Wait until after US Open. Hasn't she got a lot of points to defend there?
Her big points are at the Australian Open where she got to the quarters . At the US Open she is defending 4th round points but given she is 9th YTD it could be a lot worse. |

Konta is currently 9th on the list from the start of this year. Saying that, if she loses tonight she could go down to 11th in that particular list by the end of the day.

Yep, she's now about to start entering the tricky stage of having to defend her existing points as well as trying to climb even further. It often trips players up after their first 'breakthrough' year.
Perhaps it's that sudden realisation that the *minimum* you must do is match how well you've played in the previous 12 months, just to hang on to your current ranking. It's an additional layer of pressure which she hasn't had to deal with up till the US Open begins. |

Oops dunno why I typed quarter!
Regarding the US, she should be expecting to get to R4 anyway given what seeding she is likely to have. |

So if she was to win this tournament, where would that put her in the live WTA race?
A lot of ifs, buts and maybes involved though. |
