It is cramp, because of all those years you couldn't be bothered with fitness and training. Love how Dan is now a qualified physio.

Unlucky Dan, magnificent effort. You have won over a lot of new fans tonight.

Did you see him having a go at the umpire, and then when he won the the next point he looked the physio and said it was not cramp

Sad way to end; the fifth set was far too easy. Dan did very well up to then though.

He should be proud of how well he did, and it should have left him hungry enough now to really get down to some serious training. He has the ability to be exceptional if he can get fitter. Enjoyed the match immensely - if not the ending!

Del Potro. Lovely victory.
My favourite player vs my favourite up and coming player will be tasty though. But obviously I want Del Po to go all the way, sorry Thiem x Quote:
It was strings for his racquet. Good wins for Delboy and Dimi. Dimi could be dangerous for Andy in the next round.
I've always enjoyed the GD-Muzza rivalry for the cool contrast in styles and the varied points they can play. My fave meeting was probably the one at the AO last year - both played at a terrific level for large periods. I take comfort that Grigor has only beaten Andy when Andy has been coming back from back surgery/had offcourt issues. Let's see if Lendl/Delgado can trump Vallverdu. ![]() Quote:
I am trying to reassure myself that the year Andy won US Open he didn't play too well in the earlier rounds. This is an awful match for Andy.

Credit where it's due, Lorenzi is defending for his life.

I love Dan Evans, he's proper throwback.

If Konta is to become a proper player which she has all theskills to becoe these are the things she needs to overcome, so the more experience the better.
Urgh I hate those two. Quote:
Awol from Davis Cup as well. There's not even an argument for me over who I'd take.
Plus the loaded xenophobia in the 'English accent' comment was hilarious given that last time I checked Andy didn't have an English accent either. ![]() Evans comments were disappointing at the time, but he seems to have knuckled down in the last 18 months. Off of clay he has far more game than Blandene, and it's not even close. ![]() Quote:
Oh he's a bit of an idjit, but to my eternal shame I can't help but like him, he's so different from the pre-packaged identikit players that are around today.

Siegemund's outfit though....

Wawrinka running away with the final set in a plot twist that none of us saw coming
![]() I'm wondering whether she'll dump a DVD player in Leander's head Martina presumably no longer wants Indian nationality. Fickle lady. Quote:

I think my favourite part of that argument was Dan complaining the umpire and physio are friends.Quote:
Nick's retired, dang they're dropping like flies
Neither Nick or Dan will be in any fit state physically/emotionally to play doubles now, but it was good while it lasted. |

Also, it's well known Nick doesn't have a coach but I'm hearing that he doesn't have a trainer either, which seems more than a bit mad .... |

) and Bondarenko. Only one meeting, Aus Open 2013, Konta won 6-3 6-7 6-4. I expect both players have changed immensely since then, though. Should make an interesting match! |

I'm not so sure that this will be an easy win for Konta. Sevastova has been in cracking form. That said, her path here hasn't been that tough. Schmiedlova, Muguruza (What's her version of P3TRA named?
) and Bondarenko. Only one meeting, Aus Open 2013, Konta won 6-3 6-7 6-4. I expect both players have changed immensely since then, though. Should make an interesting match! Sevastova will probably win the title, the last 2 people to trounce all over Garbine won the Olympics and Cinci so it may be Sevastova's moment... or not. |

Well I kind of see why Masha's army aren't keen on Kiki, but what's Caro done?
Seemed proper gutted, was actually in tears. Mask slipped for just a moment and he showed his vulnerability. The swagger/bravado is a shield for him... Neither Nick or Dan will be in any fit state physically/emotionally to play doubles now, but it was good while it lasted. Dan forced their withdrawal straight away citing a 'foot injury'. Nick is a human with feels and emotions too. For all his bluster and claiming he's not that fussed about tennis, he was a broken man last night. Quote:
Just plain Mug, or Garbage instead of Garbine. Although they are way harsher than P3tra!

The alleged Begu incident perhaps? Even though there was zero proof Garcia said anything as far as the WTA and Begu herself was concerned.

Kerber-Kvitova could be a good match tonight. It's the kind of match that Petra could actually win if she plays well, though on the face of it I have to expect that Kerber will come through fairly comfortably. All she effectively needs to do is ride out the storm for a few shots, keep retrieving and wait for the wild Petra error.
Vinci having a solid tournament too, if Petra is able to take out Kerber than I'd give Vinci a shot at defending her finalist points from last year. |

Nick would have been Stan's next opponent so now Stan plays Marchenco instead. Would have been fun to see Stan/Nick after nearly a year on since sledge-gate.
Reaching the second week of a slam is a massive deal for unseeded players, which we sometimes overlook. Pretty sure he'll also be Ukrainian #1 now, overtaking lyn's second fave Dolgo. ![]() Quote:

Dan forced their withdrawal straight away citing a 'foot injury'. Yeah, Dan was understandably gutted in the presser. He was fretting about having to break news of his withdrawal to Nick...little did he know they'd end up in the same boat. Nick is a human with feels and emotions too. For all his bluster and claiming he's not that fussed about tennis, he was a broken man last night. ![]() Nick could well have lingering frustration at being frozen out for Rio. Apparently his brother is undergoing alopecia treatment...so the tears could be a combination of things. Andy seems to get on with him well off court and I reckon he's a decent judge of character. It'll be interesting to see if the Oz press ease up a bit on Nick now. Lleyton was no saint in his heyday and crossed the line sometimes, but I'm sure he got an easier ride in the press than Nick's getting. I'm reluctant to play the race/xenophobia card here but I can't really see another explanation. Quote:
Petra also has her Shitra tag when things get really bad. She deserves that tag for about two thirds of her matches these days. TF popularised it, I recks...
Speaking of TF/MTF...nowhere near as active as they used to be, even during slams. ![]() Quote:
They were in the right, the FFT messed up as per usual. The panic was that through no fault of their own they would've had to forfeit the match had they not resolved it by Garcia wearing a spare Kiki kit inside out.
The last French men's winner is still Joachim Noah in '83. However, they have amaze strength in depth and by and large, very interesting players...much more interesting than, say the Spanish/Americans who seem to have a conveyor belt of cookie cutter players. Thankfully Americans have recently moved away from this and now have young players who are more than big serve/FH. The Spanish belt has ground to a halt. |
