Now if only Konta had played at her very best (and continued it throughout the rest of the week), then we could have been looking at a Pliskova Konta final. Oh well. Maybe next time.

They have only played each other once before , two years ago in Stanford. Serena won 7-5 6-2

Serena needs to get a grip on this match fast or the tournment and number 1 seeding will be gone. I worry for Caro even more so if kerber comes out knowing shes world no.1

Would Kerber be World No.1 before her match, or only if she reaches the final?

If Serena loses now then Angelique will be the number 1....I think.

ETA if they both win then Serena has to win the final to retain number 1.

Pliskova is very calm, even when she's losing badly she finds a way and remains calm. Such a strong mentality.

Very good to see an up and coming player that has a good game and have the mentality to cope too.

Kerber has been unofficially no.1 the whole tournament, as soon as last years points dropped off, hence why Serena had to make the SFs at least even if Kerber got knocked out early, just to make up the points difference. If Serena loses tonight, Kerber is no.1 regardless of the result of her match. 7510 v 7050.

Serena can stay no.1 if - She makes the Final and Kerber loses her SF or if she beats Kerber in the Final.

Amazingly strong, maybe mentally whats been holding her back at the GS's. Whatever happens with these 4 women it should be a great final

I don't think having to play a match tonight after yesterday has helped Serena. With her age and bad shoulder. Oh well.

And the Halep match was a tough tough match, it must have taken a lot out of her too. She covered so much of the court with running yesterday.

It looks like Serena's shoulder is giving her problems.

Yes because Halep played really well. It's hard at Serena's age to come out the next night with an injury too.

So if Serena does lose then, it will be cause 'Serena was injured' and not cause Pliskova played really well? I assume that's how the media will see it. But it would be nice if Pliskova got the credit for playing well.

Nooooo, I wouldn't say that because Pliskova has played excellently and normally Serena even with an injury can win through.

ETA The USA media might see it that way though.

Load of rubbish, its always the same when she is losing doesn't mean shes injured if shes not playing her total best
