I don't know anything about it I was just reporting what she said.

Oh ok. It's a puzzling one, her statement makes it sound like Zika has long term effects for women wanting children. I don't think that's the case though. Unless anyone else knows? I don't want to criticise her, she is entitled to be concerned but I don't really understand.

Emily Webley-Smith is one Brit heading to Brazil. Not the Olympics, of course, but the WTA International event in Florianopolis. She's scraped into the main draw as a lucky loser and plays Nao Hibino.

The Brit women still on the ITF tour have reached Fort Worth, Texas. With a prize-money drop to $25,000 those who had to qualify last week are in this week's main draw.

Tara Moore is seeded 2nd and plays Olivia Rogowska (who beat Emily Webley-Smith twice in 2 days last week).
Laura Robson is seeded 7th and plays Chanel Simmonds
Freya Christie is seeded 8th and plays Danielle Lao
Lisa Whybourn is unseeded and plays a qualifier
Katie Boulter has reached the final round of qualifying and plays Danielle Collins for a place in the main draw.

Robson & Christie continue their doubles partnership and Moore partners Whybourn.

Elsewhere Samantha Murray has used her special ranking to make the main draw of the $50,000 event in Granby, Canada. Not sure what happened to her after she lost to Sharapova in the first round at Wimbledon 2014 but she returned to the tour this spring.

Right, come on Laura! I have never heard of any of their opponents except for Olivia Rogowska, but only because you posted about her last week!

If you look on Samantha Murray's twitter account (blurb - "I play tennis now and again") and go back to 2014, she had wrist surgery.

Rafa update. He was icing his wrist again after his second practice session of the day, seems to be just a typical post-injury precaution.

Flight connection drama for some of the Rio bound ladies.

AA has got you covered if you're a slam champ though.

Also how did Peng Shuai manage to blag her way onto the Team Spain bus?

Without wishing to sound big-headed, from looking at that list, I see no reason why Konta can't go deep into the tournament. Whether she can go deep enough to come away with a medal though, I'm not so sure.

Anyone on the opposite side of the draw to Serena will think they've got a good crack at getting a medal.

Will be interesting to see if Serena will claim gold. She's not had the best year, by her standards.

Ah, thanks for uncovering the reason for her special ranking return.

This is a handy site for following the progress of Brits week by week:

I think she will, Kerber should get a medal, the third is up in the air I think, it could be a complete random (though I want it to be Garbine).

I'd rather it was Konta (assuming she can't make gold or silver)

Oh yeah I'll allow it. Ok, Garbine should replace Serena or Kerber in that case.

At least the women's draw is holding up better.

Or at least it will be once they complete the WTA Amazing Race. Vesnina & Makarova are still stuck in Miami after finally getting out of Montreal and Errani & Vinci have somehow managed to end up in Japan?

Who knew getting to Rio would be so difficult!?

The US tennis players - preppy overload

BBC sport now reporting Stan's w/d. Back injury aggravated by playing in Canada...

This is kinda funny though - personal ad for Hingis

Also, that young girl Gabriella Taylor is ok now - she was the British junior in intensive care during Wimbledon.

BTW, is anyone staying up for the opening ceremony? It starts at midnight and normally lasts 4-5 hours. I don't think I can hack it.

I don't why they haven't tried getting a connecting flight to Sao Paulo instead. Or tagged along with Gavrilova who got herself a flight to New York and is Rio bound.

Wearing shoes without socks needs to stop.

That's great news.

Oh good lord I'd forgotten about the time difference. Beijing nearly killed me. I'm out nearly all day Saturday so hopefully I should be able to catch some of the doubles in the evening and try and stay up late for the swimming.

I had that for a while when I left my job, but I'm back to getting up at 7am now. I will probably have to iplayer it the next morning. It starts at 12am, 8pm in Rio.

They did last time, except I think they had neck scarves and berets. Awful.

Edit: I was right, here they are

That's lovely to hear. I felt so sorry for her parents when I read their quotes.

As much as I like Garbine I fear she will be even more big headed if she wins gold.
