We have 31 and 28 year old champions this year....pity Serena lost or it would have been 31 and 34
Stan is the oldest USO winner since Ken Rosewall in 1970.

Oh God, they actually hand the cheques out in public - so vulgar!
Come on it's all about the green with Americans

OOOH you are falling into dangerous John Inverdale territory there, better hope Andy doesn't read this

The Stan Slam is still on except there's a 2 year gap now.
How so, he just has to win Wimby in 10 months.

Novak has still got another three years in him

He could still reach Rogers total, but he will have to have another great season next year

Sorry any tennis player out there would LOVE to win two grand slams in their lifetime, never mind one year. The dude is only human, he's going to be off sometimes and lose matches. It would be odd if he didn't...
True - it's just he's been off for three tournaments in a row. This isn't a one off tournament where he's made silly mistakes and basic errors; they've been prevalent since the French. Yes he made the final here but... who knows what might have happened had he been forced to play for a result in the previous rounds.

Just think Novak needs a break, think he should take the rest of the year off, or at least until the year-end thing. Then there'll be a decent break before the Oz Open.

I wouldn't put it past Stan to do it. Who knows what could have happened this year if he hadn't ran into Delpo?

He was supposed to win Wimbledon this year to win the Stan Slam. So it will be a bit back to front next year.

What including the French that he won? If anything that shows signs of a true champion imo.

I think it's a bit early to be predicting any sort of decline. I'm not saying that the gap hasn't closed between Novak and the rest of the field but I'll see how he performs next year.

Thinking of Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US as the three. Know saying the latter was 'poor' is harsh but he got a relatively free ride to the final then was very much second best tonight.

YAY STAN!!!!

Didn't think he could do it (hence why I went onto the next conversation of Novak potentially dominating 2017 a little prematurely.)

Nonetheless I loved being proved wrong tonight.

Although as somebody mentioned earlier he's very capable of winning all 4 next year still, so watch out.

Mens tennis is so much better when we have different winners. This 'Big 4' conversation I think is going to have to widen its tent at some point I think.

How much longer can we talk about a 'Big 4' and not talk about Stan in the same breath?

No

Tennis is much better when Novak goes past Rogers total of most Grand Slams titles

Yup needs to get his self together and comeback stronger. Should never have done the Olympics tbh.

Oh come on now the Olympics is once every 4 years, its an excellent chance for him to get one over Federer in the never ending GOAT argument. So I certainly wouldn't begrudge him going for it. He'll be 33 at the next one also so perhaps this was his best chance.

Following Novaks defeat (and thus losing ranking points based on last year) is the race for number 1 back on for Murray?

Doesn't look that close using entry list. I think year to date race is closer.

Seems ages Dan Evans nearly knocked Stan out of the US Open. Well done to him & roll on the Davis cup.
