Andy surely has to win Paris as he's defending runner up points?

Ferrer's had to pull out of Vienna so Murray is going to play an exhibition match with
Austria's Jurgen Melzer.

The only report I could find is stating a left leg injury and that doctor's advised him to pull
out.

Makes a nice change Murray getting a W/O to a final
Just as well Jo is giving them a match against Dr Ivo then.

I don't usually like watching the 'giants' but it was a pleasant change to see Isner soundly beaten instead of the usual 7-6, 6-7 pattern (and I'm not accepting the blister could have taken much off of Isner's serve) and Karlovic has been impresssive when he's actually had to run around the court. I'll always want Tsonga to win against anybody but Andy though

It's pretty gobsmacking that Karlovic is 37 and still getting to a semi-final

Ah OK. You know what round Nocak has to lose? I know I saw it on twitter some weeks ago but ofc forgot.

Novak hasn't played this badly in ages so anything is possible really.
Andy has to win Paris and needs Novak to not make the final.

Dan Evans had to pull out of Paris due to 'lost luggage'

Wouldn't you just have borrowed a couple of racquets to make sure you got some appearance money?

Surely he could have borrowed some racquets in Paris. If the Olympics still had ranking points Andy could have been number 1 by now.

LOL I edited before I saw this.

I was telling my OH earlier about the Olympics not having ranking points anymore. Would Andy have got extra ranking points too for being a defending Gold medallist or just the same amount as any Gold medallist would have got?

Ah OK. Thats really not impossible is it
Andy also has to win Vienna but if Novak loses early in Paris I guess he can still reach #1 even if he loses tmrw.

Don't think they gave extra points to defending champions. Or maybe his existing points from winning last time would have carried over. Can't remember what the rule was.

Just watched the highlights of Sveta vs Domi. Gotta love Domis fighting spirit. Sveta is such a miserable cow and a sore loser. Pretty poor form not waiting at the net to shake Domis hand. Good for Domi walking right over to her to shake her hand. Classy lady. Unlike her opponent.

I suppose there's a case of 'lose on the swings but gain on the roundabouts' here. If Murray had gone further in the US Open, Indian Wells & Miami then that points tally could have been quite different but he's played more tournaments than Novak has too.

Hope he gets it eventually as he really deserves it.

He has an incentive - he'll want to beat big brother Jamie! I just hope he can retain it if he gets it for longer than the couple of weeks Jamie had it for

I think if he does get it, he'll drop Davis Cup. He'll want to hold on to that spot for as long as he can and without the extra effort it's taken him to reach it.

I was hoping Muller would beat Nishikori, that way he'd have been on a bit of a high going into his 1R match with Novak.

He would probably have lost to Almagro (...)

Well it's all about opinions, but classy is never a word I'd use for Pome, and that would be before the pova-bashing. Sveta was fighting just as much too, after all these long matches to keep in it for as long was incredible fortitude.

She could have waited at the net to shake her hand.

She could have yes, probably should have, but she was clearly gutted, possibly her last chance at a big tournament, don't think she likes Pome much either.

Do they have a history? I know it's hard to lose after fighting so hard but Sveta always gives a wet fish of a handshake when she loses. I don't care for her bullying on court behaviour either.

Yeah don't piss Kuzzy off.

"Then you just don't talk bad behind somebody, which many players they do like to talk."

Subtle reference to Cibulkova mouthing off about Maria.

Why, what's she done? Nothing really jumps out at me. I know she once retired from a match when she was down three match points in the final set, but that's all I can think of.

On the subject of Murray trying to get to #1, I saw this comment on the ATP Facebook page:
Novak has won 2 Grand Slams this year Murray has won 1

Novak has won 4 Masters events this year Murray 3

They have played twice in Grand Slams (both in finals) Novak won both matches.

I think it's obvious to see who the number one in the world is at the moment, adding a few cheap events to your schedule to get quick points doesn't mask that.
I agree tbh. I mean I'd love Andy to make it to #1. but Djokovic would still be the true #1 in my eyes.

Genie, meanwhile, uploaded a picture of herself dressed up for Halloween. The top comment?
if she wanted to do a make believe character she could dress as herself winning a grand slam
