Sometimes the players would rather start on the Tuesday, knowing they'll get a day off at some point, while other times a Wednesday start suits. I think if the player was in a final on the Sunday, they generally prefer a Wednesday start, so they can rest a bit, and get used to the different surface.

In Beijing, Murray started on the Tuesday, with a day off, which will have suited him better as he'd been able to arrive early, and knowing he had two tournaments in a row.

I read that Paris is faster than it has been for a few years. In theory, that should suit Murray more if he does have to face Djokovic, but Vienna was slow, making the first couple of matches on the new surface more challenging. If that is the case, then that is a silver lining for Murray to playing an extra set tonight.

For a three time slam winner he doesn't half produce some rubbish at other events.

Novaks half. Novak does have Cilic who has run into some form lately.

Stosur has lost her second group match today, beaten by Garcia. There was also a win for Zhang Shuai, beating Babos.

Is anybody actually watching this 'also rans' tournament in Zhuhai? Daft idea for a tournament IMO.

I agree with others, it should have been held before Singapore. I still would have ignored it, bit at least it would have been out of the way and made way for the Fed Cup Final.

I'm watching it. And like has already been said, people like Konta were a first alternate in Singapore, so it wouldn't work having Zhuhai first.

The men don't have a second level WTF (or do they...???) So why do the women? More money for the Asian swing?

Its an odd one isnt it? Havent caught sight of it on the telly but I cant imagine it is very well attended?

Djokovic and Dimitrov exchanging breaks early in the 1st set in their match, Dimitrov just had another point to break again then but missed out.

EDIT - spoke too soon, hes now 4-2 up

The wonen's end of season finals used to be the top 16 I think, but now it is just the top 8 and they created the Elite Trophy for the next 12 players.

Either way, if Jo Konta could win this tournament, it would do her confidence some good going into 2017.

The best solution then would be to scrap the Elite Rejects and move the WTA Finals into that week. Everyone gets to have a weeks rest after Moscow and the WTA Finals gets to be even more of the showcase it should be, without the last minute panic of trying to brand and promote the event without knowing who's qualified and without everyone being present.

Novak winning but must be a bit worried as he is bouncing the ball a million times.

Far too sensible, I don't know what you were thinking.

What's going on with Leyani? He seems a bit enthusiastic in his calls today.

Maybe he has that holiday feeling? Umpires must get a break in the office season too!
(Do they think they practice with Christmas baubles and things!?)

Mo is always a bit of a show pony.

Andy should swap outfits with Pouille.

Yes, I know the reasons why they have it after Singapore. They could sort those minor problems out if they wanted I am sure. . I don't know why they even bother. I'd scrap it all together.

He should! Change the shorts to dark blue and Andy could totally make that work.

He is certainly enjoying speaking French, he sounds like he is auditioning for a really enthusiastic bingo caller.

Same as yesterday, Andy just won the first set 6-3, he's looking pretty comfortable. Better than yesterday for sure.

In the dark navy again. Pouille is wearing a neon pink cap and shorts.

When will men realise that wearing your cap backwards is not cool and makes you look pretty stupid. Can't say I've ever noticed a woman doing it.
