I didn't say I was devastated, but it is a terrible 1R match on paper.
But think of the plus points, Novak could lose Round 1

It's terrible for Delpo I think, especially as it's in SA, it may well be the closest he gets to a home olympics.

Come on, are we really devastated about Novak getting a shocker of a draw.

I'm not, because I would like Muzza to retain his title
Ha! Me too, but I like Delpo, and he loves the Olympics and this is the closest he'll get to a home games, and I think the locals will want to root for him too, so I'd like him to get through a couple of rounds. Nole is clearly the main competition, and I'm not too proud to have that taken out, but it would still feel a bit of a cheat if he went out in the first round, and it would be a shame for the competition.

But then again, gold's gold.

I know it should be fine, but Andy's first round match is a little trickier than I'd have liked. I'm concerned the excitement (and huge amusement) of carrying the flag might take it out of him, and a nice and easy first round match would have been a convenient tonic. Being Andy's first match of the hard-court season means he is at a slight risk of being caught cold if he's not careful.

I think Andy may want the doubles more than the singles. I think he wants a medal for Jamie.

I think you could be right here, Andy is very family orientated. I also think he knows that Djokovic will be very hungry to win the singles as it's missing from his CV although Djokovic has drawn the toughest 1st round opponent possible Delpo in the first round is one nobody wants.

Totally. I think it would be really special for them both to do it together.

Andy may be rubbish at flag holding but is excellent at hula hooping.

If Konta plays well in the first two rounds (with Garcia a possible opponent in round 2, which won't be easy), then her first test against another seeded player would be in round 3 with a possible meeting with Kuznetsova, followed by Kerber in the quarterfinals.

But still, let's just take one game at a time and hope all our players can perform well.

Looks like Venus and Serena are in the same half of the draw.

Have a feeling we will have one very surprising SF on both mens and womens side. Think there will be a lot of early upests.

We've had Andy hula hooping, and bringing us eternal joy with his flag antics, while Serena has been making videos of her on a see-saw with Madison Keys. The other tennis players really need to up their Olympic Games game to compete.

Really dont know why some media outlets are saying Murray has an easy draw, as far as I can see the 16th seed is currently ranked 32nd and Troiki is currently ranked 35th, so hes actually got one of the top 3 players in the world he could have drawn at this point. Much easier draws were out there.

Just watched Andy hula hooping, made me laugh seeing how competitive he was even about that, he was really annoyed with himself! The interview before it was nice too, bit of gentle ribbing about the flag, I love seeing that side of him. He seems very relaxed.
Just after 9am on BBC Breakfast if anyone wants to watch it on iplayer

I assume Murray has been told he isnt playing Saturday morning then?

He may still yet do the mixed doubles if he bombs out of either of the other two events early, I guess.

So pleased that Dom Inglot and Colin Fleming are playing doubles. It must be great for them to embrace the whole thing of Team GB.

He's not playing tomorrow. The schedule has been announced https://www.rio2016.com/en/tennis

For my fellow Delpo fans he's playing the doubles tomorrow!

The Brits in action tomorrow are: Heather Watson (singles & doubles), Colin Fleming with Dominic Inglot (men's doubles), Kyle Edmund (singles) and Jo Konta (in the ladies doubles with Heather)

Meanwhile, in Mexico, the ineligible Olympic players and those not high enough to qualify, those using the Zika excuse and those who want ranking points and money instead...

Thiem withdrew with a hip injury 3 days ago, it seems.

Some nice photos of all the tennis stars at the Olympics. Cute pic of Jo and Hev in the last pic, Venus fixing Serenas hair like every big sis does and Djoko meeting Phelps :

That was funny but she got a big hug from JJ when she finally arrived which, looking at the big smile on her face pleased her and made up for that long, weird journey :

They play well together so have a good chance of getting gold in the mixed.
