It is a terrible look, but I think it's because the cap keeps the sun off the back of their neck, most women have longer hair so not needed. In fact because of morehair they tend just to wear visors.

Yet of course doesn't explain why they do it indoors, guess they're just used to it, or ridiculously think it looks cool.

Got the bagel. A quick evenings work, just what Andy needed.

Yep, he will walk on court in London and promptly collapse from exhaustion.

A re-play of the horrific result Andy suffered at the hands of Fed a few years ago perhaps?

I was a bit worried yesterday. A few weeks ago, people said it would be impossible for Murray to go deep in Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna and Paris, but now he's won the first three, people are talking about whether he'll bow to the pressure of the #1 spot being on the horizon, and lose early in Paris.

I'm pleased to see Andy safely through the first couple of rounds, and should he lose to someone he would normally be expected to beat, people are understanding, and don't try to read too much into it.

At least it was a nice quick match tonight. And if anyone wants to do a Ferrer and withdraw, I wouldn't object.

Haha, I guess faster conditions are always better, but I think what I meant was it doesn't bother me as much with the WTA, as the slow courts manifests itself in a different way, less of the grindfests that we get on the ATP side.

Agree with all the posts about Zhuhai, it's completely pointless, but I guess there's nice points on offer for those who can be bothered to make the trek. The WTA seem to be enjoying themselves anyway, so much so that they went a little heavy on the aul photoshop for this photo

Andy really wants the No.1 ranking and that is why he is playing so much at the moment.

Well I was talking about Thiem and him getting the last WTF spot - from his rubbish playing schedule. It's a real shame Goffin will probably miss out. Unless Berdy gets it. But for Thiem to get it would just reward his crap playing management!

That is a match best forgotten, it was just grim. I hope Andy never gets mauled like that again.

It would not surprise me with Thiem, his schedule has been bonkers. It's just not sustainable.

Yeah, I can see Thiem getting some bad results. Andy did well to come back for the end after Fed pulled out of the final. I love how he is wearing a poppy too.

So nothing but a win will do for Jo tomorrow. If Garcia wins, then she is through and Jo is out. It's the same scenario for Kvitova v Strycova, whoever wins is though and whoever loses is out. Then there's Vesnina v Bertens, both are already out, so that match is more for pride really.

Looks Berdych will qualify ahead of Thiem now.

Good lord, can you imagine having to end your tennis season playing a dead rubber. Against Bertens. In Zhuhai. Doesn't bare thinking about tbh.

Andy is defo adjusted to the conditions now, he schooled Pouille again. Spending time with him in Dubai was fruitful as he knows his game inside out...Pouille knows what to work on in the offseason.

So glad that Simon lost to Berdy and Muzza avoids another grindfest.

Completely slipped my mind until I just saw the team announcements posted.

Czechia - Pliskova, Kvitova, Strycova, Hradecka
France - Garcia, Mladenovic, Cornet, Parmentier

Even with France's home soil advantage I'm still backing the Czech's to retain their grip on the Fed Cup title.”

Awesome. Now when Nole does his groovy celebration, I'll tell myself he's internally singing Imagine or Give Peace a Chance.

Czechs are just deadly in Fed Cup. Is it me or is France's team a bit underwhelming? I would've given Dodin the nod over Parmentier, even if just for the experience. It didn't turn out too bad for Kedders making his debut in the Davis Cup Final.

I'm torn between wanting Rafa to play as long as possible, and wanting him to retire before he really slumps.”

Problem for Rafa is he's declined, but more than that he's hardwired to play a grinding style. Aura is diminishing rapidly and youngsters smell blood. I think any further success will only come on clay.

In Beijing, Murray started on the Tuesday, with a day off, which will have suited him better as he'd been able to arrive early, and knowing he had two tournaments in a row.

I read that Paris is faster than it has been for a few years. In theory, that should suit Murray more if he does have to face Djokovic, but Vienna was slow, making the first couple of matches on the new surface more challenging. If that is the case, then that is a silver lining for Murray to playing an extra set tonight.”

Yes, Paris is marginally faster this year apparently. It's still slow, but not molasses. Hopefully the WTF will also avoid molasses.

I think a German journeyman started this nonsense in the 90s, and the likes of Marcelo Rios followed. It really took off when Haas and Hewitt came on the scene.

I always thought it looked proper naff.

Thiem might well play a match, get thrashed and withdraw. Could open the door for the likes of Goffin?

I'd rather he didn't qualify at this point. Guy looks physically and emotionally burnt out and in need of offseason.

According to Austrians on MTF, the rumour is that he split up from his gf during the season and that's had a profound impact on him. Poor sod

I find the WTA grindfests pretty painful though, at places like IW/Miami. Not many women have the power to consistently hit through the molasses without racking up errors.

Thiem's schedule next season boggles the mind. Guy just doesn't learn, it seems...and he plays a fair chunk of doubles as well!

Pressure of defending big points for the first time, add potential injuries into the mix and he will probably fall back to the top 20.

All the players out there are complimentary of Zhuhai...but I suppose they would be, wouldn't they?

Timi Bacs in particular has immersed herself in Chinese culture, even learning a few words. Her answers in interviews are really thoughtful and deep. Bacs and Sveta are the best transcripts around for me, almost always a good read.

Comfortable win for Jo in the end, 6-2 6-2. Also a win for Kvitova, 6-1 6-4.

Now it's up to Murray!

And if he doesn't, it's Showdown at the O2. Don't think I've ever been happier to be wrong about a match result. I thought Cilic was about to melt but he stepped up and kept his nerve.

Thank you Cilic.

Now you and Isner can bore each other to death in the SF.
