That's all I want for the moment. Even if he gets it and loses it at the O2 he will have chances next season.
Didn't realise the Aus Open points come off now and not before the event. Bit odd.

Don't forget, Murray took time out at the beginning of the year when his daughter was born, while most of his rivals were playing one or two of the smaller events. Murray just came back for the Davis Cup, knackering himself ahead of Indian Wells - for no points. He also had both Beijing and Vienna in his calendar since before anyone thought he had a realistic chance of #1 this year, so it wasn't a last minute tactical decision either.

There are some who thought that it was dangerous to play all of those tournaments, and I suspect if Murray had a tougher time of it in China, he may have withdrawn from Vienna, but we've seen before how tired he often gets by Paris and WTF, and this run could still make him vulnerable to upsets.”

At this point in the season I do get a bit nervy about people playing too much. But i'm used to Rafa being totally burnt out by this stage, Andy seems to cope better. I just have to remind myself that Andy knows his own body, perhaps if he wasn't so close to number 1 he would have skipped Vienna but he knows what he is doing.

I've seen odd mumblings about 'vultering' in these tournaments, which is daft since he hasn't really gone beyond the ATP requirements. He just happens to be winning them too.

Andy broken serving for the match at 5-4. Don't start the walkabout now, please!

Berdych channels his inner Dementieva and Andy breaks back. Never change T-Berd.

He must be nervous. So much on the line.
I am as tense watching this as in a slam final.

Thankfully Berdy DF's to hand the break back to Andy.

It's a good day when Andy gets a challenge right.

Ace to clinch it! Just one more match to go! Awaits the winner of Tsonga v Raobot.

So unless Tsonga wins the whole thing, Thiem will be in London.

This is just so tantalising! Never in my lifetime did I think I'd see a British Wimbledon champion let alone a double winner, double Olympic Gold winner, Davis Cup winning contestant and US Open champion. The possibility of that No.1 slot may be getting too much for me

Me too. It's so close and yet so far. It would be so frustrating if he loses tomorrow. Hopefully he's still got enough in the tank for one more win. Hopefully it's the Raobot tomorrow as Jo may have learnt a thing or two from his loss last week.

Me too. I've been much more relaxed watching him play since he won Wimbledon the first time, because there was so much less anxiety about what might have been from the commentators. Yes, there were still the odd "only won it once" lot, but who honestly takes them seriously?

Anyone else wonder if Andy only got serious about becoming #1 because Jamie got there first?

I'm sure that provided some inspiration, but this is also his first full year where he's had a top 2 seeding, and not had any substantial injury problems, so it was to be expected that he'd gain a lot of points - regardless of what Djokovic was doing.

It's wonderful. Who would have thought the scrawny boy I saw winning junior US Open would get to this point.

Probably added incentive.

I think Andy's rivalry with his brother has been his spur all his life. I'd like to believe
that Andy credits Jamie with his success too. He learned from an early age how to
play against a leftie because of him and had a free hitting partner for most of his youth too. That had to have helped Andy get to where he is now.

Djokovic has completely and utterly lost the plot. I thought he'd recover but the number of defeats he's suffering now... I'm not sure he will. Maybe it's mental? He won the French and something clicked off inside him? Murray has done brilliantly but the closure between the two has been as much to do with Djokovic's failure as Murray's excellence.

Indeed, what a time to be alive! Then there's Jamie being a boss in doubles and Jo's momentous rise to the top 10 in the WTA. The LTA must be scratching their heads as they can't lay claim to any of it.
