Tweet from Stuart Fraser

Quote:
“SUNDAY AFTERNOON Bryan/Bryan v Dodig/Melo Djokovic v Thiem

SUNDAY NIGHT Murray/Soares v Huey/Mirnyi Raonic v Monfils”

Great news for me, as it means I get to see Andy next Monday.

Andy looks like he's just woken up

Group John McEnroe:

Murray
Wawrinka
Nishikori
Cilic

Group Ivan Lendl:

Djokovic
Raonic
Monfils
Thiem

The toughest group Andy could possibly get given the dead and dying in the other group. Fully expect Raonic to be replaced by Berdych given his injury.

Interesting groups.

Depends which Stan turns up (it's not a slam afterall) and Cilic is beatable for Andy. Kei, oh who knows. Andy can take him too. Maybe Gael can pull off an upset, who knows. Thiem I don't think has anything left and as you say, Berdy will most likely replace Milos.

I'm presuming you mean more talented than Kyrgios, in which case I'm curious as to what you're basing it on. At their equivalent ages and even taking injuries into account, Nick had already achieved a lot more than Kokkinakis had.

People (not you, Makson) talk about Kyrgios as if he's some gargantuan failure but he's ending this year with a new career high of #13, and with three titles too. Sure enough, if he applied himself more than he could have ended in the top 8, but he's not done badly either. He's at a crossroads though, and next year will tell us a lot.

That is the worse possible draw. Are they handling it to Novak?

It's kind of funny. Murray in the McEnroe league has to beat Lendl

Are they just odds vs evens seeds?

Anyone know why they did away with the suits ceremony and did the whole skype thing? Looked, well, informal, I do like them all in their suits!

Aw, that's sweet, I saw Roger say a new king is in and calling for him to be a 'Sir'. As he's close with the Middleton clan, maybe he'll put in a word? Andy's as deserving as any of the other sports people.

Wow, that sounds a little bit extreme.
The thing is with that, of course he's not going to die, but I don't like the sound of it because I'm guessing it means he will exhaust his body in the attempt, so perhaps he won't be able to lead a normal life when he retires due to injuring himself to the max.

LMFAO!!!!!!

Keep supporting the most despised no.1 that ever WAS!!! LOL @ Fakervic even trying his old trick of MTO when he was losing!! A leopard never changes his spots - not matter how much spiritual work they try to do. It has to come from one's soul and unfortunately Fakervic has an extremely dark one that not even a spiritual guru can fix.

What a loser he is

Djokovic's luck. Been like that for the past 3 years - only way the boring pusher could achieve anything - just look at his USO luck

I'm an extremely good judge of character. I know when someone is being fake or not. My friends always ask for my opinion on things.

6 months ago that would have looked like a bye into the semi-final for Nole.

But will his slump continue?

That draw is

It's often not balanced, but of each pairing, Murray didn't just get the trickier match, the difference between each is huge right now.

Raonic will either withdraw injured, or he'll play, but tentatively. Monfils could be a tough opponent, but it's his first trip to the WTFs, so he may be distracted, and the showbiz feel might encourage him into his bad old ways. He did withdraw from Paris with an injury, but I suspect it was a tactical decision to be healthy for WTF, and I expect him to at least be healthy. Thiem is now running on fumes, and will also be so pleased to reach the finals that an experience player should be able to take advantage.

Djokovic isn't playing well, but not one of his opponents have ever beaten him. Even in a slump, he maintains a pychological advantage, and he'll have a decent chance of reaching the semis.

Meanwhile, Cilic is in form, and feeling confident, coached by Bjorkman. That could give him an edge, assuming it doesn't have the same impact as when Murray plays one of Valverdu's charges! If Stan decides to have one big last push at the end of the year, he could beat anyone, and Kei is always tricky if fit. They all know they are capable of beating Murray, and will give it a good go.

I gotta say though, look at the USO. Novak had it all his own way...until he met Stan in the final and lost.

I believe anything can happen.

I'm sure, and it's really not that unrealistic that the draw falls that way by chance, but it is quite funny to see in the circumstances. An in-form Djokovic would be an easy favourite to beat every possible RR opponent, except perhaps Wawrinka. But with his form as it is, he could genuinely benefit from being pitted against opponents who are also out of form or injured.

In a strange way, it makes both groups more interesting. because it's less obvious who will win or come 2nd.

It started elsewhere, possibly in General Messages, so there will have been a lot of posters who aren't regulars in the sport forum, never mind the tennis thread. In other words - some of them are clueless and/or think they are bringing something new to the discussion thanks to their observation that he never smiles/is boring/has a mother/hates the English!

Yes, it made for amusing reading! But actually most of the posts were positive and congratulatory which was a pleasant surprise
