BBC extends deal with the ATP to show eight singles matches a year from the WTF until 2018.

Well at least Ryan Harrison, John Isner and Coco Vandeweghe will be happy today. They all attacked Nicole Gibbs at one point or another on twitter for being pro-Hillary and anti-hate speech.

Yep, I hope those lower taxes are worth it.

Urgh - both the supports and the attacking. What have we become?

Just as well it's a quiet tennis week because all the tennis tweeters are tweeting about the election...

Despite only playing a few months of the tennis year, Roger has won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award for a 12th time.

So there was no good sportsmanship by the rest of the tennis world from June onwards?

Seriously?

I actually agree, but I really had an issue with the nominees too.

I mean it was Roger, Rafa, Andy and Stan. Roger and Rafa haven't been around much, Andy actually hit a very hefty amount of fines at one of the slams this year for his swearing on court too.

I really thought it awful Theim wasn't even put up for the award after his conceding the point the umpire was giving him a chance to replay against Goffin without any question from Goffin either. I thought it was one of the best examples of sportsmanship in the sport all year.
I also though Delpo should have had a nod, he was so gracious in some tough defeats and victories too. These two should have been up there.

No doubt I am happy about the fan favourite though, as he hasn't played much, at least it shows how much he is cared for in the sport by the fans. To win by over 50% of the vote too.

I cannot offer much on the election. All I will say is the right are taking over the world quite quickly since this summer, sadly Cameron started all of this off with the vote and the right are now using it as their initial springboard (Trump, Le Pen).
We are in for a rough period in time, possibly decades, this ill feeling isn't going away quickly and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed a shift in people we thought we knew. Just stay true to who you are and what you believe in and don't sway. My best to you all though.

Berdych and Tsonga have refused to be alternates for London So it's going to Goffin and Bautista-Agut instead, which works out well really, they'll relish it a lot more. I remember Dimitrov (quite rightly) getting a lot of flack a couple of years back when he refused the alternate, and Ferrer getting a lot of praise when he stepped up.

Speaking of Ferrer, he's now out of the top 20. I hadn't realised he had such a poor year, didn't even win a title. He'll be hitting 35 next April so he probably won't be around too much longer. In an even slightly weaker era he'd surely have eked out a slam or two, unlucky to be playing against the big four at their best. I know he hardly has the most attractive style of play but the dogged determination is quite admirable.

It's become a farce really, but the award is sponsored by Federer's sponsors, and while I don't think they rig it, I am sure they exert some influence. But the reality is that giving him the award year on year serves to diminish the award, so they aren't doing him any favours - especially this year. I also think the criteria for giving the award is fairly vague, and what's important to some in a sportsman is irrelevant to others, and what some consider terrible sportsmanship, others think is just fine.

For example, I couldn't care less about swearing and Scottish people really do swear a lot in affectionate situations, never mind the stressful ones. Meanwhile, some Americans react to what I consider moderate swear words as if you've just punched their granny. In Britain, Andy Murray got a lot of credit for sticking up for the women in tennis, not just because he's one of ours, but because most Brits believe in equally of the sexes. Meanwhile, he took a lot of flak in some of the eastern European press, who were eager to defend what Djokovic had said. It was a similar story when Murray spoke up against doping, and a lot of sports writers hailed him for showing great leadership, but you had fans of certain other players being very defensive.

Delpo was such an obvious, but well deserved winner of the come-back award. The rest are harder to judge, but I can't complain. I can't say I've noticed Cilic do any humanitarian work, but presumably he does his share of charity work, and it underlines that the tour holds no grudges against him for his own doping mistake.

They are all an excuse to hand out some gongs and get press and publicity, and IMO have little to do with encouraging the players to be sporting, or charitable.

I read something about Berdych having a problem with his appendix, and Tsonga has had injury problems all year, so probably ready for a proper rest - especially if he is to become a dad next year.

Dimitrov skipping was more than a bit presumptuous. At least Jo and Thomas have played there many times, so aren't missing out on the experience.

Ferrer has really struggled with injuries this year and I think even the tournaments he played in, I think he rushed his comeback at times. Like you say, probably won't be around much longer. I will miss the little warrior.

@Amelia, that last sentence reads like a farewell. You're not emigrating are you???!!!

I was considering it after the leave vote won, but it's quite clear now the world is changing, so there will be nowhere to go soon, I think we'll be entering a similar era to that of the 30's in the years to come, there won't be anywhere that won't be affected.

If Ferrer does retire soon, I'll also miss him around the tour. Always just wished he would believe he was better then he was, his mentality was always he wasn't good enough for things, which is a great shame as he has beaten top players and given them a good challenge at times.

Crazy, she's still on a drug cheating ban, it's like everyone is glossing over it. Strange.

Canada seems the only choice, mind you I can't see myself liking either Genie or Raobot.

Worrying times.....

Is it really something to get worked up about in these times? she's done huge amounts for Chernobyl victims through her foundation, and she'll become the Goodwill ambassador again when her ban is finished.

No-ones forgotten about it, hence the entire tone of that article. She's not on a ban for cheating either, but oversight, not even the original report said cheating.

what about that doubles player, Nestor? Popsicle? there's the up & coming Denis Shapovalov as well - there might be some hope.

Yeah, I'm not very happy with the state of the world either. I don't know if it's better or worse being in Scotland (re: Scottish Independence).

Let's kidnap a nice rich tennis player and get them to buy us an island that we can live on in peace. We can Rafa Bay and Murray Harbour. Delpotro beach?

I like Abanda, she's not very good though.

I dunno, the weird thing is New Balance said vaguely pro-Trump things, Nicole Gibbs is one of their top players.

It's a weird one. Will the money talk or will Nicole etc stand by their views and start looking for a new sponsor in the off season?

New Balance have made a post on Twitter about loving everyone or some such back-tracking shit, I couldn't read the meme through.

Seemed spectacularly badly timed just after the Election with emotions running high. Heather watson and Milos with them too.

I don't think it's as simple as that. Unless her contract is due to end soon, there's not a lot that can be done, and who can be sure that the next sponsor always says and does everything you agree with? The real problem would be if the player had to stifle their own opinion.

It's also a lot harder with equipment and clothing sponsors, because you presumably like their stuff and changing is about a lot more than image. I mean, when HEAD came out with nonsense about Sharapova, Murray disagreed with them, but realistically, it would be a nightmare for him to change racquet companies.

I think things would be a bit different if it was someone you had a deal with for off-court products, like perfume, watches, cars, chocolate or whatever. Your association with them is much less about functionality and more about your supposed shared image and values.

With pain conditions I don't do well in the cold. But yes, for now that does seem like an option.

I think Tartan Belle has a great idea with that island though!

I'm not, hence the one line response. I've made my peace with what will happen with Maria.

But I do think at times like this, smaller things can be what people get annoyed about. This isn't about Maria, but things that seem minor will become huge as people see it as something they can have some say about, some control. So reality shows or something, like with the baked alaska in bake off, there will be big mountains out of molehills as the world changes and there is less we can do about it.
