Indeed, who would have thought back in 2000 that we would have such a luxury?

Or even 2010.

The winner of this event wins nearly 2 million quid. Bit odd that the defending champion gets 1,500 points but the winner only gets 500 points.

Eh? What on earth are you on about?

Each group game win gets you 200 points (so a maximum of 600 available)

Getting to the final gets you an additional 400 points

Winning the event gets you an additional 500 points.

So the winner of the event will get anywhere between 1100 and 1500 points depending on how many group games they win (you have to win at least one group game to get out of the group, although usually you need at least two). Djokovic is defending 1500 because he won every match last time out, of course those points have now expired from the rankings so I dont know why you think he gets them back again

Why are you always so aggressive when responding to someones post? Do you speak to people in everyday life like this? Is it really necessary? They showed a graph on screen and said the defending champion wins 1,500 points.

The graphic was clearly incorrect. If you win every match in the event, you win 1500 points.

If you win the event but lose a group game, you win 1300 points.

If you win the event but lose TWO group games (not likely to happen but mathematically is possible) you win 1100 points.

They arent going to give the defending champ free points like that, Novak has to earn them this week like everyone else

That's exactly what I meant and I think you know it. If you win the event as defending champion you win 1,500 points. If you addressed people in a more civil tone you will find people will respond in kind instead of ignoring you. That works in life as well as on a message board. I fear my advice has fallen on deaf ears.

Well no, ANYONE who wins the event without losing a match earns 1500 points, not just Djokovic. Points breakdown here

http://www.barclaysatpworldtourfinal...nd-prize-money

Nowhere on there does it say the defending champion (Djokovic) would get 1500 regardless if he wins the event and loses group matches. If he loses a group match and wins the event he gets 1300 points, same as how anyone else would.

I think that's wrong, it certainly ought to be.

Novak could win this and still drop 400 points on what he won last year I think.

Exactly, the link I provided above has no caveat about Djokovic being an exception to the points rules.

It says undefeated champion gets 1,500 and a final win gets 500 points.

UNDEFEATED champion., not the DEFENDING champion as you originally wrote in post #8678

Ive explained the points above. Win every match and you get 1500 points. Win the final but lost group games knocks 200 points off for each group game you have lost.

So an example:

GG1 win - 200 points
GG2 lost - 0 points
GG3 win - 200 points
SF win - 400 points
F win - 500 points

Total - 1300 points

My bad. I thought the graph on TV said defending champion. You can go back to smug mode now. Or even smugger mode. If that's possible.

Monfils out if Djokovic wins later, would make Thiem/Raonic a winner takes all match on Thursday.

LOL It looks like there are only 4 Swiss fans there this year as they keep showing them everyday.
