Intredasting. Obviously the Friday OOP was correct, but I anticipate shuffling for the dubs/Sun.

Something like Cilic/Dodig vs Delpo/Mayer in the dubs. Wouldn't be surprised if Pella or Mayer play in a potential fifth rubber against Ivo.

Court looks slow as hell though. Croats may have messed up? It weakens all their team bar Coric, who is unfit. Arg are far more comfortable on slow hard than they are fast...

Glad you linked everyone to Mr Shakhov, he's awesome. The best Russian journo on Twitter for me. Covers the Russian players/tournaments brilliantly and almost always tweets in English.

Another good one is Jose Morgado (Portuguese).

Yeah, Delbo did better than I expected. He is largely a clay courter and his hard court game comes and goes (BH in particular).

Cilic needed to hit the reset button mentally before the fifth. This must've taken something out of him...

Thanks shortie. Haven't always seen eye to eye so this means a lot

I actually liked the Croatian top on Ivo

Delpo should be used to the rowdy crowd by now, Rio must still be in the memory banks.

I agree, James K is very good. Seems to nail 95% of overrules.

The only regret was that Delpo let the second set TB slip away. Could've been done and dusted in straights.

Playing Ivo wouldn't have been physically demanding but it sure does take its toll mentally.

Looks like Boris has been talking again, offering his reason for Novak's form.

Quote:
“Novak is a competitor at heart -- if I have one guy who has to play for my life, I would pick Djokovic. That's how much I trust him," Boris Becker said in an interview with CNN. "But he didn't have any opponents anymore. His time was with Nadal, with Federer. Andy was always the fourth guy, so [Djokovic] lost a little bit of his opponents," added six-time major winner Becker. "Murray is showing something he hasn't shown before.”

Seems a bit dismissive of Andy, and has Novak really suffered due to lack of competition? It's not like he was regularly facing Roger and Rafa anymore, and when he did he won. Where is the competition in that?

Change in the doubles. It's Cilic/Dodig vs Delpo/Mayer

Boris is always a bit random. Very dismissive of Andy.
Lets see if he still has a job come the new season.

Sigh.

All I wanted to end the season was a Del Potro, Davis cup victory. Not happening now.

I despise Cilic as well, he would win absolutely nothing in the game if I had my way.

It's not over yet. The Argies have a good chance in both reverse singles.

Boris presumably means Roger and Rafa's mere presence on tour. When both were out of the picture, Nole began to ease off.

For me, Nole's decline is due to a lack of motivation after winning the French that'd eluded him for so long. Also factor in him becoming vegan, alleged marriage problems, turning to the comfort blanket of the guru...

Heh, I could see it coming a mile off. Dodig was the best player on court unsurprisingly, he's got the doubles experience. Positions himself well on return, mops up well at the net, brings good energy and pumps the team up.

Mayer was making some decent forays forward but often moved too early, allowing Cilic to hammer a FH past him. Unfortunately he was a nervous wreck in the first TB...also had chances at 4-5 in the second set on Dodig's serve. After he'd messed them up I knew Arg weren't winning the rubber. Delpo's timing was off and he played far too deep, leaving a ton of real estate for Dodig to volley into.

I make it sound like a bad defeat for Arg but it isn't really, Cilic/Dodig are a formidable pairing (especially on home soil). They took down Herbert/Mahut in the semis. Would be interesting to pit them against the Murray bros...

Yeah, agreed. Cilic is probably a bit more mentally/physically tired than Delpo and it should manifest itself tomorrow.

As for a potential fifth rubber, Ivo could be a bag of nerves. His serve tends to drop off during BO5. Could Mayer/Pella be relied upon to keep holding serve until this happens? Personally if I'm Croatia, I'd send Dodig out there for the fifth rubber. He looks a man on a mission.

Havent been on here for a while. Happy to see Andy at #1 and seems likely to stay there until W at least? He doesn't have a lot to defend compared to ND, ofc anything can happen.

Is Fed still expected to play AO?

DelPo looking a bit off today. Cilic leads two sets to nil.

Yep, he's been training in Dubai and treated himself to the Abu Dhabi GP today.

Fantastic DC match.
Two sets all. Time violations flying around James K getting it in the neck

He was using the crowd noise as an excuse to regroup I think.
James [the umpire] has an impossible job.

This match has got everything. A 2-0 sets down comeback, a ballgirl being hit with the ball, a mental crowd, time violations, code violations, Cilic demanding a point because Delpo wasn't ready to receive and winning hotdog lob. The tennis isn't too bad either

This match between Del Potro and Cilic could last another hour

And just when i say it Del Potro has just broken Cilic serve
