Well done Delbonis, DelPo and Argentina.

I don't think that I have ever been so happy for Davis Cup win which didn't involve Spain. Not even the GB win - great as it was.

I am so happy for DelPo. I really hope this fires him up for next season - obviously except when he plays the boy Rafa.

He was part of the final squad and I think that he hoped to be fit enough to play but in the end he wasn't so Skugor replaced him in the final team.

If Andy had beaten Del Potro in the Davis Cup singles. We would have been playing Croatia. And probably would have beaten them

Andy would have been running on empty if he had to play this weekend.

Not if he had missed the World Tour Finals or not qualify from the group

But that would have meant he would have lost his World Number one ranking

No chance he would have missed that and lose his number 1 ranking after fighting so hard to get it.

It was a knowing joke in reference to the blossoming Delpo fandom, hence the , I'm well aware Delpo didn't actually do it all alone.

So the tennis season is finally officially over, and the Davis Cup players will be heading back to Australia in what, less than a month? Tough turnaround. The ATP deserve a longer break.

Result!

In the first two sets, Delpo was too passive in rallies and very predictable off the BH side (CC 95% of the time). Cilic was camping in the ad court to drill BHs DTL, or inside out FHs. Also served out of a tree.

Eventually, Delpo managed to find some timing on the running CC FH and made Cilic pay, breaking him to win sets three and four (breaking to win sets is a surefire way of serving first in the following set, crucial against a treeing opponent so they feel scoreboard pressure).

James K made a right hash of the time violations though. After gruelling 20 shot rallies four hours into the match and a raucous crowd, he needed to use some common sense. Silencing a partisan crowd is a thankless task and I really doubt viewers were bothered about both guys taking a few more seconds when needed. All adds to the drama and occasion.

True, it depends on the player though. Delpo channelled his frustration well.

bah humbug....”

Big servers are still few and far between. In any case, the other players need to go to return school - can't leave all the dirty work to Nole/Andy/Kei/Daveed

I couldn't have scripted it better tbh.

Been a long time coming for them. Far too good to never win a DC!

Well, most of the ATP have been on hols since Paris tbh. Only the WTF and DC participants have had to wait longer.

It is what it is. To leave the tennis rackets gathering dust isn't really good either, I think if they leave it more than 3 weeks they'll be super rusty.

Whilst most of the WTA are now enjoying their holidays, CiCi Bellis has done a bit of vulturing and ends the year ranked 75.

So now it's finally all over, your personal highlights and lowlights of the season?

Highlights:
Murray winning another slam, doing so well on clay, winning another gold medal and of course finishing the year #1.
Kerber having the most unpredictably, inconceivably brilliant year
Muguruza winning RG
McGee winning his first challenger
Seeing glimpses of the old Azarenka again, albeit briefly
Pliskova finally making a slam run
The rise of Zverev
Kyrgios winning three titles and finishing at a new career high, even if it was a frustrating year otherwise
The rise of Lucas Pouille
Wawrinka winning slam #3
Osaka and Konjuh rising
Delpo's resurgence

Lowlights:
The whole Sharapova saga
Muguruza being irrelevant at almost every other tournament not called Roland-Garros
Azarenka's pregancy! (Obviously purely from a tennis viewpoint, I love kids and it's amazing for her and her partner!)
Kyrgios being Kyrgios
Bouchard and Stephens being irrelevant and staying irrelevant. Genie actually only improved her ranking by two spots on 2015!
Serena's odd year, even if she did win a slam
Zverev missing that volley on match point against Nadal at Indian Wells
The ridiculous decision to put the brilliant Aga-Cibulkova match on court 3 at Wimbledon
And for me personally, being so busy throughout the year that I got to watch nowhere near as much tennis as I'd like

My favourite match of the year, and one that I always go back to would be Serena and Kerber at the Australian Open final. So, over to ye
