I don't want to unfollow though, I just wish people would stick to what they know. I.e; tennis journalists stick to tennis. It's especially annoying when the likes of Courtney Nguyen keep peddling the narrative that Hilary lost because everyone's a massive sexist, which is obviously far from the truth.
I don't mind it, it's not like she is using a business twitter account, it's her personal one so she can tweet about whatever imo.

RE: The election, I know where she is coming from, and it's easy to point to sexism (which was a factor for some I don't deny), but I think it's more to do with Hilary being a terrible candidate. They are both terrible, there is no getting around that. Clinton is as dodgy as they come, and her involvement in some of her husbands misdemeanours makes the whole 'Hilary for women' laughable. She thought she would get the female vote, and couldn't manage that, that speaks volumes to me.

I would have preferred a Clinton win (anyone but to Trump to be honest), but it was a lose/lose situation, a half decent candidate would have buried Trump months ago, I don't think people have an issue with women, I think they have an issue with her specifically.

Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund, Daniel Evans, Johanna Konta, Heather Watson & Naomi Broady all have direct entry into the Australian Open.

Aljaz Bedene, Tara Moore & Laura Robson are in the Qualifying.

Big year coming up for Robson I feel, if she doesn't start to make some headway this year I fear she never will again. Enters the year on a five match losing streak too. Of course, time is on her side, she'll be turning 23 in January so she's still on the young side of the game.

Shame the same can't be said for Jamie Hampton, hasn't even played a match in almost three years. Surely the retirement announcement will come this year?

Bit of a drop for poor Bedene. Hope next is a better year for him.

Hope Laura can build on the good run she had in the late summer.

I always assume she is way older than that, closer to 27. I guess it's because I have known about her since she won Jr Wimbledon. Seems like she has been around forever.

Laura's season ending rankings:

2014: 951
2015: 558
2016: 219

Solid progress, despite regular injury setbacks.

True, but she got a lot of help from her protected ranking, which has now expired I think. She'll find it tougher now she has to go it alone.

The protected ranking got her into a couple of tournaments but she didn't win any points off those matches did she?

She'll get WC's for GB events wouldn't she?

I look forward to a reprise of the poster who was critical of the DelPo WC's if Laura gets loads!!

Her PR got her into Rabat, Stuttgart, Indian Wells, Miami, Madird & RG, for which you get points even if you lose in the first round, which she did in all of those except for Rabat and Stuttgart qualies I think.

Yeah, she will, I had mixed up some of the WC's with the PR. At the very least I hope she ends 2017 back in the top 100.

She was MD in Rabat and won a round there.

Bedene has become the forgotten Man of British Tennis following the rise of Edmund and Evans.

He's struggled since he missed out on the Davis Cup.

Agreed, his last decent tournament was Roland Garros.

That's going to upset some people isn't it? I think it's a difficult thing to decide, but Andy is worthy of the title imo.

It would be hard to argue he shouldn't be in the running. It's nice that he can be recognised at the time rather than being wheeled out when he's 80 and everyone realises he did something we won't see again.

I think I'd have voted for Jessica Ennis-Hill though.

I have my thoughts on Murray being voted greatest Brit sportsman ever, but I'll keep them to myself on an ostensibly Andy worshipping thread

Anyway Flipkens against Bertens in the IPTL,, really can't work out why this Tournament is failing

Although I am a huge Murray fan, I have huge misgivings over the best ever stuff because of comparison issues, which is why I don't tend to offer my opinion on such things.

I agree totally, it's hard enough judging across eras in one sport, to throw all the others into the mix is just ridiculous, comparing a darts player with an endurance athlete for instance, but hey it sells papers gets clicks I suppose, which is the point.

Lol you're not going to get jumped! I have my misgivings about greatest polls like these. It's impossible to compare the achievements across sports.

Especially when they have nonsensical rules such as you must hit every ball you toss

If that is the rule, how come Venus and other players can toss the ball and then say "sorry" and start their service again?

TBF that was probably the highlight of the tournament for me

Just in the IPTL. Think it wouldn't be a bad rule, Ana seems to manage it here, so why not the rest of the time, it can get bloody ridiculous.

Comparing sports against each other just doesn't work imo. Murray is deserving of the title for sure but then there are probably others who have achieved a lot in their sports and are just as deserving.
