How good do you think Dan Evans could be, if he keeps improving like this
I think he is seeing how good Kyle Edmund had become, and he wants to improve himself I can see Evams and Edmund battling out to be Britains number two He's more than capable of being top 50 and maybe he is finally rewiring his attitude, it seems that his scheduling - skipping Davis Cup, etc is geared towards to a good run in the USO, which he's done before. Time is still on his side given that everyone seems to be rewriting the tennis age books. |

Do you think that missing the Davis Cup has ruined his chances of playing against Argentina, as he could have easily have beaten Lajovic and Tipsarevic, but now Kyle Edmund has grabbed his chance now, and Dan might have to be back up

Sloane Stephens first ever title defence went very well indeed.. she won a whole three games against world #126 Risa Ozaki
![]() The real news coming out of Washington tonight though is that Lisicki actually won a match

That's true. Makes no sense does it.
Dan seems to dance to his own beat as far as scheduling is concerned. |

I was actually surprised to see how far up the rankings Dan has come. I'd given up on him after all the previous flash in the pan runs in tournaments that never amounted to anything consistent and his own admittance of preferring to enjoy the lifestyle of being a tennis rather than wanting to work on being a better tennis player.

Rafa and Roger have withdrawn from Toronto, I'm not surprised but it's a shame for the tournament with Andy also not playing. Rafa apparently started practicing last week, even being ready for the Olympics is a big ask at the moment. I think Rafa will go even if he knows he will lose his first match.

That probably wouldnt be enough anyway. Hes 815 points behind in the YTD ranking and if Novak wins Toronto then you can add another 1000 to that.
Then again there is plenty of tennis left in the year - 3 more Masters events after the Olympics, US Open and London. Would be surprised if Andy has entered anything else other than those events. Then again, his website seems to have missed the Paris Masters off! http://www.andymurray.com/schedule/ ![]() Quote:
Federer is also not playing Toronto, as well as Nadal and Ferrer. Bencic not playing Montreal. Canada is getting hit hard by the Olympic prep/injury recovery...

Also Andy too.
I wonder if Novak will be the next one? I believe Stan is playing though. Quote:
Evans fails to serve it out first time.
He still has one break remaining. Quote:

Argies will bring Delpo/Pico Monaco/Delbonis, all of whom prefer slow hard with a medium/high bounce. That was basically how the Glasgow courts played last year, and it allowed Andy to cover even more court and run down more balls. It would also give Kyle more time to set up for his signature FH. Swings and roundabouts ![]() Quote:

Dimitrov's career (or what's left of it) continues to slide into freefall.
Mr Blackheart will only regenerate when the Nike/Wilson/Rolex dough dries up and he has to get off his arse again. Maybe by then he'll have a half-decent website

Or Rafa for that matter? Rio for both? |

Noticed that Dan Evans is doing the Lexington Challenger event next week, maybe in hindsight he should have given the Toronto qualifiers a go as well! Is it possible to enter both or do you have to commit to one and if you lose in the qualifier you have to sit out the next week?

Yep but that's the next tournament on the schedule anyway so that's probs why they are missing it. Roger's being more careful with tournaments as he's got older + he's desperate for that gold although he won't get it this year. He wants to be best prepared for Rio. Rafa said he'd only play if he was 100% as he didn't want to risk Rio so I guess he's not quite ready yet. He's been practicing for 1 week now so obviously not long enough whereas another week or so's practice + he'll be ok for Rio. I think he'll do more in the doubles tbh as he'll have some on to help him but in singles I think he'll struggle. He himself has said something similar.

Grigor had a career best 2014 which got the sponsors attention, signed a fat Rolex contract for 5 years, moved to the West Coast and is basically riding the wave. He seems to have as much hunger as Tomic now, which ain't good. Neither of their games have progressed to any measurable degree and they both seem pretty spoiled. Same goes for Sock, though at least he tasted doubles success with Pospisil.

It's all aligning for Raobot to win his first Masters, I recks. Already made the final here in 2013. He can go all out here because he's skipping Rio.

2016 is basically Sloane at her inconsistent best, she either wins the title or bombs out early.

Beat me to it about Vaidisova, was just coming to post the same thing. It wasn't much of a comeback anyway, got nowhere near where she once was. Best tournaments would probably be Monterrey and Tianjin, where she managed to make it past the qualies, or perhaps Miami where she beat Timea Babos and then took Halep to three sets.

Wow, do you reckon that may actually be true? I always assumed it was just tennis forum insults being thrown around.

This has been on my mind for a while now...why are the WTA/ATP cut offs for qualification into slams different? Are they different at all?
USO ATP cut off is ranking no. 98 (+ PR) USO WTA cut off is ranking no. 103 (+ PR/SR) Delpo not in USO, hopefully he gets a wildcard into it (assuming he wants to play it and not do more wrist recovery time) as a former winner. ALSO: this was an actual question to Genie in a presser about Vika. WTF. Worst question of the year? |
