And the tour is short on former slam winners at present with Petra out and Vika and Maria yet to return.
That is a point I never thought about.

Another addition to the growing, Wedding Tennis Association - Serena's just announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

In proper tennis news. Naomi Broady is MD for Auckland and Laura's in qualifying.
Your not fooling anybody Lisa, we both know the real news is at the top of your post. I just saw this, I didn't know she was with anybody but apparently it's been 2 years? Congratulations to her, I hope they are both very happy.

Has the relationship been common knowledge or a well kept secret?

Congratulations to them both.

I had heard they were going out alright but not a lot else. It's odd, there's hardly any pictures of them together and he's never been courtside at any of her matches either.

Good lord, is the new season really beginning on Monday? Literally got no idea what to expect.

I was oblivious as well. I recognise him in the onesies pic that some of the media are using, I remember that being on snapchat, but she's always hanging out with random people so I didn't think anything of it. Fair play to her for keeping it on the down low and making it known on her terms.

Rafa beat Berdych easily in Abu Dhabi. Looked cute with his short hair.
Andy is playing tomorrow. 1pm I think.

Perhaps retirement is not long away as a result.

Oh, I knew there was something I meant to post.

Thiem has released his first half of the year schedule.

It's busy.

Clearly did not learn anything from playing waaaay too much this year and seems to think this is the way to get and stay in the top: it isn't by playing so many tournaments but by winning//going deep in the ones you do enter!!
Indeed. First quarter: Brisbane, Sydney, Australian Open, Sofia, Rotterdam, Rio, Acapulco, Indian Wells & Miami

Meanwhile, this made me laugh

Good to hear about Serena and Alexis. It should lessen Daddy Patrick's grip on her which can only be a good thing

She'll stick around so long as she's challenging for slam titles. She wants that record.

3 more slams seems to be a lot to ask for, unless you're think of just getting a 23rd slam and calling it a day?

On the Mail website there's a picture of him court side at Wimbledon with his mother, and nobody noticed lol.

They also go through every boyfriend she has had since 2000, which is just gross. But it is the Mail so I can't be surprised.

I didn't even know Rafa had played yesterday. I'm well out of the loop, although I normally am until AO.

In even bigger news, Garbine is in Brisbane. I am being positive, she will do better this year.

I'm so envious watching Berdy and Jo playing in the bright sunshine while I'm sitting here looking at heavy fog outside my window.

She'd want to beat Court's record. A big ask now.

Court's 'record' is dubious at best anyway.

Very poor game from Andy to lose the match from 40-0 up. Daveed played extremely well though. First time he's beaten Andy.

Miles said before the match that Andy doesn't do well in exhibitions. He plays better when he has the bit between his teeth. Should have done better though.

He should. Especially when he had broken Daveed in the 2nd. Rafa has broken Raonic already.

I have no idea but I'm thinking maybe an American thing and not something we need to know about.

When I read he had a bye to the semifinal and was up against Goffin I thought he might lose. Nice for Goffin and no big deal for Andy. He'll be ready when the real matches start.

Nothing dubious about it- she won 24 Grand Slam Singles Titles.

The AO wins when virtually nobody outside of Australia turned up due to the logistics of travel in them days, giving her hometown advantage are sketchy. The top seeds had byes into the second round, an AO title could be won in 4 or 5 matches due to the limited draw size.

That's before we get onto her bizarre hatred of Women's tennis and being a raging bigot, those things alone make her irrelevant to me.

She won 11 Aus Open titles which as you say was in the days before players travelled that distance.
