Slightly off topic, will the evening athletics be at stupid o'clock each night, or will it be at a more GB friendly time?

I guess it's just one of those things on the thread that jar with me. Like the constant reference to Goffin as short when he isn't.
It's the proportions of his body shape, baggy t-shirts and boyish looks that make him seem shorter than he is. He's still on the shorter compared to 6ft+ers on the ATP. Although if you want a true midget then look no further than Diego Schwartzman.

trying to get a freebie maybe!
Haha I'm sure she's earned a few with the round the world trip to Rio.

Disappointed for Aga, no joy at all out of Rio it didn't favour her at all. May as well have been a clay court. I don't want Singapore and 10 million fan favourite/hot shot awards to be the only thing on her resume!

Looking on the website, the first couple of night sessions finish just before 4am then the rest is a before 3am finish, so not much better I'm afraid!

Imagine if Andy and Hev win after being reserves.
It is a possibility considering there are only only 16 teams in.
Andy was disapointed with silver four years ago so will want to go one better.

Weekend weather forecast for the area where Tara and Laura played their dramatic match:

* MAXIMUM HEAT INDEX... 100 TO 104 LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND FRIDAY AFTERNOON. POTENTIAL FOR MAX HEAT INDEX GREATER THAN 104 SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
* IMPACTS... INCREASED RISK OF HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS. HEAT EXHAUSTION LIKELY WITH PROLONGED OUTDOOR EXPOSURE OR STRENUOUS ACTIVITY.
* OUTLOOK... RELIEF FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. LIMIT OR RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. FIND SHADE AND STAY HYDRATED. CHECK UP ON THE ELDERLY... SICK AND THOSE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. NEVER LEAVE KIDS OR PETS UNATTENDED... LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK.
Who schedules these tournaments?

Looking at the BBC schedule, it says 12am Sunday. eg. Men's 10,00m final 01:27am. I would assume that would include Farrah? Not sure I can stay awake till 4am, but I do have the luxury of TV on my mobile phone, via Virgin, TV Player and BBC Sport streams, so I can hop into bed and watch in the palm of my hand until my eyes decide to shut.

Pass. I think there was some discussion on here/on twitter that her and Henri might get a WC into the draw since they won Wimbledon but guess we will have to see what happens.

From looking at the start list, I think Konta could make it to the final in New Haven. Whether that's a good thing or not, being so close the the USO, I don't know.

Maybe if you're a character in Eastenders but I have never heard Heather refer to herself that way or heard anyone who speaks about her say it. She just doesn't pronounce her name that way.

I guess it's just one of those things on the thread that jar with me. Like the constant reference to Goffin as short when he isn't.

Nah regional accents are all the rage these days.

I can be a bit south London but my typical voice is like something off radio 4 because I was made to have elocution lessons as a child (to get rid of the south London).
Totally agree - it bugs me too. It does sound really common - and I'm not posh at all. I have a friend called Heather and no one ever calls her Hev. I had presumed it was a London thing because of Eastenders but apparently not.

I do tend to think of Goffin as short though.

Guess not surprising to see Nadal wd from mixed, though I'm sure Mug was not happy.
This was 1R? Why were they not replaced? Or were they?

Guardian Sport

Only an hour or so after Murray had warmed down from his tough three-setter against Fabio Fognini to earn a place in Friday’s singles quarter-finals, he and Watson were told the Romanians Monica Niculescu and Florin Mergea had withdrawn

If anyone is interested in seeing the Marc/Rafa celebration in better quality, scroll through the article and there is a vid.
It's too cute, I can't cope with it.

There was no alts left to replace them. If Heather's plane had been earlier in the day, she would've left Rio also!

Off topic - I recommend watching Stranger Things on Netflix

I'm up to episode 4. It's very funny, nice 80's sci-fi horror homage.

Can you imagine what they will do if they win Gold? I think I will be crying then, a Silver medal is brilliant but they have come so far now, we might as well aim for Gold. They will be the first men on the Spanish team to get a medal at Rio (unless that changes through the day).

It's on my list, really looking forward to it.

It's like waiting for a bus, you wait ages for one (player withdrawal) and two (player withdrawals) come along at once!

Laura's due to play An-Sophie Mestach at 10 am local time. Maybe a bit cooler in the morning though some of these matches drag on for over 3 hours.

I presume Tara's OK as the tournament is continuing.
