Given some of the comments in this thread, you have to wonder why people do in fact continue to listen.
The general consensus seems to be that pretty much everyone on the station is disliked, and all fall under a certain questionable criteria that you have mentioned on many an occasion. I used to listen to the station daily, a lot - but now I only listen to a couple of podcasts from shows that I actually still enjoy. Still got my morning alarm set to talkSPORT out of habit so I do listen for a few mins each morning until I eventually switch off in despair at the comments of Brazil/Quinn/Parlour/The Moose or whoever it might be. Used to listen to the Sportsbar nightly, but I give that a miss now. Does the guy who does the voices/impressions on that programme still feature on there by the way? That guy is a legend. I forget what his name is. Regarding the impressions you mention I don't ever listen to the Sports Bar show [because it's a show I dislike RightHandPillar so I don't listen] so the only impressionists on this station I know about are Ian Danter and Johnny Vaughan, [both are good] and there's Steve Hartley who does all the station's promos.Writing now in a separate paragraph because the next guy about to be mentioned doesn't deserve to be associated with the two people in the above paragraph there's also Matt Forde who thinks he's an impressionist but he clearly isn't.

Are you on about Ash, who used to be the producer. Used to do Dave Love etc. Now works with James Whale on talkRADIO. Steve Hartley is the voice over guy as Billy says above
I remember him working on the Ian Collins Show years ago where he would feature on air in small doses every now and then. I thought at the time that this is someone they should give more airtime. He gradually did get used to full potential on the Sportsbar over time. He's a really funny guy, I think. He also used to make humorous use of the sound effects on the Sportsbar. He used to impersonate the Two Mikes while they were sitting there ready to start their own show. It was fantastic. |

Ash has been kicking around for years. He was James Whale's producer on the original talkRadio (Father of talkSport) which I used to listen to as a kid in the 1990s!
He probably received most prominence during Tommy Boyd's weekend shows when Ash used to produce the Sunday night show - latterly the Human Zoo. The catchphrase of the show was almost "You're listening to the Human Zoo - ASH IS HERE". Many callers used to impersonate this tagline during the show. I wasn't sure what happened to him after Boyd and then Whale got sacked. He wasn't the Producer the night of Tommy Boyd's Saturday night show which ultimately led to his demise when Tommy didn't use the dump button as he probably should have. Hadn't realised Ash was producing the Sports Bar - he must be one of - if not THE - longest serving employee at the station! |

It's his A game, and looking more and more like he has no Plan B. It is SO tedious and crap broadcasting. Ram said the other day they should take the sheet of fixtures away from him, good idea but would we then be hearing more and more about Brazil's days wine and roses around the wine bars of the City of London? That said he'll soon be at the stage that he doesn't remember them!
Anyway happier things. Are you packed and ready for Italy Bangla? The Unite union have suspended their ground handling strike so it's all systems go for me, 😊 But I always hear commercials, I've just heard one today on H&J, where TS promote the amount that Brazil drinks. Leaving aside the fact that this is irresponsible, boring and repetitive, I just don't see why this is a selling point of the programme. What do people generally want from a radio host? (a) is informed, teaches you things that you don't know, and makes relevant and interesting points; (b) drinks a lot. I might be weird, but I always look for (a) more than (b). I don't really take (b) into consideration at all. |

I don't ever listen to the Breakfast Show, I heard about 20 minutes approximately 3-4 years ago when Ginola was on with Brazil, and it wasn't just poor, it was an absolutely train wreck.

Gough was a very good bowler. The problem he had was that he was always injured because he was overweight. He has the type of physique (endomorphic) where he will always be likely to put on a few pounds, but this meant that he had to work harder than average and eat and DRINK more responsibly. I'm guessing he didn't do it.
This was really brought home to me when I watched a short documentary about his England career on Sky. You would see him performing really well, and then the narrator would say "then Gough was injured and missed the last two tests". He barely played a whole test series without getting injured. He was by far the best English seamer of his generation, yet he didn't even play 60 tests. And by the last two, against South Africa when only 32, he was already completely shot and took 1-215. Didn't look after his body, whereas Jimmy Anderson does. |

You make cracking points about his injury record and maybe not looking after his body cost him 50/80 wickets but I maintain he rarely frightened the top batsmen of their day and his wickets and overall average were helped by his undoubted skill against 9/10/jack

Hadn't realised Ash was producing the Sports Bar - he must be one of - if not THE - longest serving employee at the station! James presented on Sunday nights on Talk Radio for a long time until his illness at the turn of the century, which is why he produced Tommy Boyd (and later Ian Collins) on that night, so he produced the Sunday to Thursday night output for the best part of 20 years (although I think he might have packed in Sundays when that slot started airing pre-recorded output, notably My Sporting Life, within the last five years). Once James left talkSPORT in 2008, Ash remained as the weeknight evening producer with Ian Collins although he wasn't heard on-air very often at all on Ian's show. When Ian left the station and The Sports Bar with Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy took the timeslot, within a while they brought him back as a prominent on-air contributor doing things like the silly voices reading Tweets in While You Were Listening and Dave Love. I stopped listening to The Sports Bar regularly this year, but I think when talkRADIO launched in March he stepped down from his producing/contributing role on that show straight away to work full-time on the new station - initially as a co-host with his brother Jonny on The Brothers Gould weeknight 7-10pm show, which has subsequently been replaced by the return of James Whale which he, of course, produces. After Ash, I think the person who has been continually-involved with the talkSPORT stations the longest is the West Midlands football commentator and reporter Nigel Pearson. He was part of Talk Radio's reporting team when they first started covering football on a regular basis in the 1997/98 season and has freelanced for them ever since. |

I like the familiarity of Brazil but I do think his show is pretty poor radio. He often sounds absolutely bollocksed from the night before too, I just can't see them ever sacking him for good and it's obviously his only source of income now so he's probably clinging on until his liver packs up.

so the only impressionists on this station I know about are Ian Danter and Johnny Vaughan, [both are good] and there's Steve Hartley who does all the station's promos.
