The Pogba deal is happening for £90-100 million. Even Mourinho has had to concede that this is crazy money.
Pogba will be paid £275,000 per week, although he's not the only United player in that wage bracket, with Rooney and Ibrahimovic both reckoned to be paid in excess of £250,000 per week. Mkhitaryan, de Gea and Schweinsteiger are all paid £200,000 per week, so that's approximately £1.125 million per week just for those five. Meanwhile, don't know if you've seen this guy before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YCtuyTeXbk He's fairly well known, but you won't get a more dyed-in-the-wool United fan, and he's had to give his season ticket up because he can't afford one any more. But now because of the blanket media coverage of football and the number of impressionable fans, there is a groundswell of opinion at every club, and particularly every big club, that demands massive transfers all the time. If Arsenal don't spend £100 million on players then it's a quiet summer. But then the same fans will moan about the ticket prices. You get a t*sser like Goldstein, who has no brain cells, who now just treats it as normal for the top clubs to spend £100 million every window. Whereas not that long ago clubs would often make very minimal signings in the summer, or even make no buys at all. And then you will get the idiotic media wondering why there are empty seats in grounds. I heard Noel Gallagher being interviewed a while back, and he was asked why there are empty seats at City games (a daft question in the first place). I fully expected him to state the obvious, but he genuinely didn't seem to know. I don't know either, Noel. But maybe it's because people of modest means don't want to shell out £50 per ticket, and sometimes more, twice per week, plus all of the other expenses involved, to pay money into the pockets of players, coaches, managers and agents who are millionaires and owners who are billionaires, many of whom are mercenaries, in a difficult financial climate. Maybe there is a complete disconnect between the people that run the game, play the game and profit from the game, and those that watch the game. And then I was reading Danny Murphy's opinion on the Pogba deal the other day: Yeah, it's becoming irrelevant. Hey, why don't they pay £189 million for a player and jack the ticket prices up to £200 each? It's only money, it's basically irrelevant. No amount of hype can hide this reality from me any more. United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal are in another world to the rest.

Pogba and Stones's transfers have both dragged on and on without a criticism from TS but in the past they've slagged off other managers if the transfer hasn't happened in 24hrs. Of course Pep and Josie are above criticism at TS.
Dim Dom was squawking about ManU's chances in the Champs League this year until someone pointed out they weren't in the Champs cos they only finished fifth (5th) in the Prem last season. He then said " Oh yeah, ah meant next season, not this season " Sure you did DimDom. |

One of my favourite early morning listens doesn't start while 7.00am that being Nick Ferrari and I don't really like Paul Ross all that much over on talkRADIO so I tuned into the world's biggest, best and most successful ever anywhere in the world Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show and gave that a listen.
Brazil was still off and I don't know who the main replacement for him was as I didn't hang around long enough to try and find out but bloody hell guys that hopeless creeping crawling Dominic Cork was on and he's absolutely awful, why on earth do they employ people at this radio station as bad as him don't they realise the general public out here I should think mostly all loath him. This is how I rate Dom Cork, you remember how poor Ronnie Irani was on a bad day well Dim Dom's worse than one of Ronnie's bad days when Dim's having a good day.

Out of interest how do city's crowds compare with say, 30 years ago, when it cost a fraction to get in and the capacity, at a guess, was actually bigger, and hence inexplicably more empty spaces? An educated guess says many more people are paying today, and are mostly 'ordinary' people of modest means who are also happy with what they are seeing.
And that united fan certainly knew all the buzz words. It is the traditional supporters who are being priced out. |

It's BARMY money but it's chicken feed to Manchester United for as Gary Neville pointed out this morning on the LBC sports news United have two season long sponsorship deals either of them making them more money than they've just paid for Pogba.
United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal are in another world to the rest. ![]() http://www.manchestereveningnews.co....nited-10260365 I've been to Old Trafford a few dozen times, and you just don't see kids going with other kids, as I used to go with my mates. It's simply not possible. And I'm sure other fans who are traditional United supporters are being priced out, as Andy Tate has been. The way things are going, I can only see it getting worse. But no-one talks about this, all anyone talks about is how every top club should be spending £100 million every year. |

There is no doubt they can afford it, but they have the most expensive tickets outside of London:

It's not really a fair comparison because thirty years ago the game was watched almost exclusively by the working-class. And we shouldn't pretend everything was better back then because violence was rife and the stadia were often pretty dreadful and even dangerous.
It is the traditional supporters who are being priced out. As you say, the most significant group of people missing from grounds today are young kids. Anyway, the bottom line is that regardless of price, supposed lack of atmosphere in grounds and overpaid players, more people are attending games today, and paying more, than at any time since the post war boom in the early fifties. Can you explain that, because it beats me. |

First post on here on here in a good few years as some over zealous tool in the football forum decided to remove my account for perfectly acceptable comments (and many others) Anyway. If I were the head sherang of Talksport I'd get RID of Brazil, Murray (he's going anyway), Durham, Goughie, Saggers, Collymore (thank the Lord he's leaving) Goldstein, Cundy, Quinn, Bingham, Forde, Richardson, Rushden, Glendenning & Moore. Of the others KEEP H&J, The Two Mikes (although Porky is a bit of a t*at), Danny Kelly and Danters for filling in. Inject some new blood with Nat Coombes getting a regular slot. For God's sake get rid of Brazil soon, he's a bloody disgrace.

While that might be true in the 50s and earlier, certainly by the 80s this was definitely starting to change. And while we don't have any figures I strongly suspect that if you polled the fans at most premier league clubs and certainly outside it today, the majority would probably claim to be working class. This is certainly true on the forums I look at.

Can you explain that, because it beats me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtzHVe2mEN0 However, you make an excellent point about attendances going up. In answer to your question, I can only suggest that if you promote something relentlessly through mass media then more people will become interested in it, and this naturally translates into higher attendances. The image of the game is also more positive now, it was very much seen as something for the underclass in the past, and the vast reduction in hooliganism and more family-friendly atmosphere (undoubtedly a good thing) has obviously helped a lot. I would still contend that the traditional supporter is being priced out of the game and completely neglected, but this isn't likely to change when, as you rightly point out, attendances are absolutely robust. |

League Cup prices at Walsall tonight - £10 adults, £5 concessions, for tickets anywhere in the ground (including the away section). I got there early and saw plenty of children and families going to the front of the main stand to get autographs and photos with the players and manager, who couldn't have been happier to oblige. This is how football should be, reasonable prices for all and the ability to interact with your team. Just a shame about the result!

The media will love these big money signings.
Gives them the chance to talk about how big and powerful the PL is - then stick the knife in if these players don't perform as expected. |

I'd only keep Sandy Warr, Geoff Peters, the 2 Mikes [purely for the comedy] and H&J, the rest are total pants. |

Oh no doubt - I wonder how many games they will give the big money signings? Ten? More like three, two even? If Arsenal do sign anyone Adrian Durham will give said player up to half-time of their first game

"Can they do it at the likes of Stoke/Burnley"
![]() I know Stones is English but the general reaction just shows how conflicting the media are. When England crash out of a major tournament its "too foreign players/managers" but now its "cannot wait for this great battle between Pep and Jose with their world class squads" Cannot have it both ways... |
