Very good points made by dif l am down to an occasional listen into H&J.I can't understand what White will bring to the airwaves as I totally agree with your assessment of him.Murray had some excellent guests when he first joined but he became very boring and predictable and his accent and stupid false laughter I found annoying.Looks like another opportunity missed

Cant say I'll miss Murray and wont listen to Jim White even if he's amazing as it's just not a time of day I can listen to the radio. Good luck to him though, don't really have an opinion on him. Only ever seen him on Sky Sports News and Transfer Deadline Day years ago when I still had Sky and he seemed as entertaining as any generic news reader does.

On a different note, heard a new advert (new to me, at least) with Saggers' "best bits" the other day that made me chuckle. Also enjoyed The Two Mikes interview with James Wale this week. Not sure if it was on Talksport or TalkRadio, the pair seem to have been flip flopping a lot recently.

Going by his Sky Sports News work and media persona, I just don't rate the guy and don't see his appeal at all. He seems to have become the chief hype man for Sky Sports and the Premier League, I find the overblown transfer deadline day nonsense he revels in to be ridiculous and the sycophantic way in which he has dealt with Rangers' liquidation and people involved like Charles Green is also a big turn-off for me. I had hoped one of Colin's "friends", someone like Martin Kelner or Des Kelly, would move up to step into his shoes with the basic format being retained, or failing that The Two Mikes returning to mid-mornings would have suited me too. But for me, the unlikeable White is a disappointing and an unappealing choice of mid-morning hosts, who I have no real desire to listening to - and I'm not exactly looking forward to the prospects of hearing his shouty promos during commercial breaks in the many shows I do actually enjoy.

I'm not saying his show in terms of its format and content will be bad - I'm willing to give that aspect of his show a chance, as personally I didn't rate Colin Murray from his TV work, yet I found things like hosting the FA Cup final qualifying round draw every year and shining a light on other less media exposed sporting events to be really worthwhile things to broadcast - but as a personality he's someone I've long found to be a turn-off. And this is coming from me, someone you have accused in the past as being, if anything, too overly positive about talkSPORT - I think most acknowledge that I'm at least constructive when talking about the station (thanks to nedski and Billy for their kind words). Yet a number of the decisions talkSPORT have made in recent months since the Sky takeover became public knowledge, not just this move but things like cancelling Up The League and Full Contact and the increasing amount of pre-recorded filler going out in off-peak timeslots, have not been to my personal taste. That being said, I have praised the recent adjustments they've made to their live football coverage (making Jim Proudfoot their Sunday commentator, reshuffling the phone-ins in Stan Collymore's wake etc) so I have balanced those criticisms with praise where I feel it is deserved. But since July, potentially negative changes to talkSPORT's output have outweighed the positive ones in my opinion.”

No I like to think you are comprehensive and thought out with your praise (usually tons of praise on folk people hate ) or criticism!

I think if White is like deadline day, it could be a poor listen, but if it is a relaxed, maybe less hyperbolic presenting style and decent conversation (unlike Durham's poll tonight on Should Arsenal give MU their UCL spot - what...) then it could work! I'm just waiting and seeing rather than some here who just say it's going to be bad before hearing a show or 3!

As I say you are rational on this board too.

I'm glad you didn't take my earlier comments about you wrongly Dif, when I have read it back to myself since I have seen that they possibly could have been. I think you are a positive poster but to be fair to you you do also criticise where you think it's warranted. One other thing I would like to add is I think you have the patience of a saint when it comes to this radio station and please take that in the kind way it is meant.

Poor old Arsene Wenger, he just can't win with Talksport.
If he doesn't sign enough players he's slagged off.
If he does sign players he's slagged off.
I know that TS is a Spurs mad station but is that enough for the bile that comes out about
Monsieur Wenger day after day.

Pep signs a player yesterday and it's hip hip hooray, Wenger signs one today and it's " "och he's left it late, it's a panic buy"

If these two go through it make Arsenal the third highest spender in the Prem this season so far so why aren't George and Quinbo mentioning dePool, Spurs, and the other 17 teams.

As for the so called Arsenal fans whinging on TS lines and twitter they ought to have a bash at watching teams in the lower leagues they've been spoiled with having a team in the top 4 for 22 years on the trot .
Don't forget Spurs haven't won the Premiership since 1961 which is 55 yrs and L'pool
for approx 25 yrs.

Keep on banging the drum mate it'll not make a jot of difference to their output but at least it makes you and some of us feel better.

Could Arsenal Football Club if they so wished ban this cowboy outfit for say 12 months from their ground with a threat that if they continue publicly ridiculing their club and in particular Arsene Wenger the ban will roll-over into the following year until they stop doing it because if I was the chairman at that club I would do it it's only what they deserve.

Knocking Arsenal has become a main theme on nearly all shows on talkSPORT, what has it to do with them what they spend in the transfer market. It's boring and repetitive and to be honest totally uninteresting to most of the country that's listening.

Cover the Premier League by all means that's only right seeing as it's the top league but also talk about the Football League clubs there's 72 of them not just 20.

It really has become pathetic, what's next scrap all the news bulletins, travel and weather updates to cram even more EPL in?.

OMG i hope nobody from TS reads that or they'll be implementing it next week.

Don't tell a certain overweight, stupid TS presenter, but Liverpool are tenth now and their next two games are against Leicester and Chelsea.

I like Klopp and I think he's an excellent manager, but it's going to be very tough this year. Spurs will find it hard as well, I fully expect them to lose their top four place.

Surely there's some unwritten rule in commentating about having a current player of a club then do commentary on his club's match. Michael Dawson is never going to be unbiased no matter how hard he tries.

I agree, I fully expect it to be the same old top 4 teams we've seen for the past decade there again, as in the two Manchester sides, Chelsea and Arsenal. I like Klopp as a bloke but I've yet to see anything particularly excellent about his management at Liverpool. People talk like he's the second coming or something.

To be fair, he won two Bundesliga titles at Dortmund and got them to the Champions League final; that takes some doing. He started with a pig's ear of a squad, and while he's definitely improved them, today they had Mignolet in goal, Lovren at centre-back and Milner at left-back. They have a good midfield and attack now, but they will concede too many goals. I agree that the top four will be exactly what you said, Spurs were completely overestimated last season in what was a poor division.

TalkSPORT are repeating 'The Spanish Revolution' once again tonight. This is the third time in as many weeks! This morning l woke up to hear the Frank Bruno edition of 'My Sporting Life'. It was repeated just a couple of weeks ago!

If TalkSPORT can't be arsed to air new shows, why don't they repeat content from TalkSPORT 2? Otherwise re-instate 'Football First' with Ian Danter instead of endless repeats!

Bank holiday weekend. The BBC are repeating loads of stuff on their news channel. It's normal in August

I'm not sure the bank holiday has anything to do with the repeats? Previous holidays were like a regular day for TalkSPORT especially in August. The schedules for both Sunday and Monday are just the same as a normal week.

I think 4th place is up for grabs for Arsenal/Spurs/Leicester/Liverpool/Everton.

I don't agree, I thought it was a nice idea to get Michael Dawson - who going by the Football Commentators Thread has been one of the better current professionals to turn his hand to TV punditry on Sky Sports recently - involved as a co-commentator as a one-off. I didn't listen to the commentary, so I'd be interested to know how he did.

I just see it as being an interesting concept to use an injured player as their summariser, with there being co-commentary berths available in the wake of Stan Collymore's departure. It happens on local radio a lot and I remember it being the way that Matt Holland first got involved in the media on Radio 5 Live when he was still an Ipswich player. He hasn't gone on to do too shabbily in his subsequent media career, so why not give other players a similar route into broadcasting?

I agree with you Peachy Keen. If they are going to put out pre-records in the newly-vacant slots like the 10pm-midnight Saturday night slot created by them moving Danny Kelly's hours forward, I'd rather they repeated some of the best content from talkSPORT 2 - perhaps full rebroadcasts of their commentaries, which is something TS2 do overnight - rather than the same limited library of old documentaries and "Best ofs" that seem to be rotated regularly. Some listeners only have limited access to talkSPORT 2, what with it being on DAB and online and having no Listen Again service, so if they have to repeat stuff then these slots could be a good showcase for the station.

using injured players for commentary isn't that unusual, a lot of local BBC stations have done it from time to time but its quite rare on a national station. I thought it was fine as a one-off but wouldn't want them to make a habit of it which I don't think they will do. I think it was tough for Dawson what with the last minute winner for united and all and he did sound absolutely crushed!

Or maybe even restore 'Up The League' for the hundreds of thousands of Football League fans up and down this country. They've never been interested in the 72 clubs in the lower divisions even when they did give it any air time it was shunted on at six o'clock in the morning for 40 minutes once a week. [40 minutes after the news etc was taken into account]

Pathetic radio station and a national joke.

BigAl's written another book have you bought it yet?, I haven't read it myself but I should imagine it's a good one this time as Brazil is an expert on the subject matter for once.

Good call.

In a previous post many moons ago, I suggested 'Up The League' could be move to 10pm slot on Friday instead of 'The Sport Bra' but as there are a few PL games now played on this day, this probably put the mockers on this idea. Also, Geoff Peters may be not available every week because he would be booked to spin the discs down at the local scout hut!

I find there are more interesting stories to tell from the lower leagues than the over-hyped PL.

I don't begrudge him a route into broadcasting, I also understand that this isn't a rarity and him being scheduled was probably not up to him. I have no issue with his punditry and would have had zero issue if he was in a studio with Ian Danter and they conversed with him during the pre-match, half time and post game. I wouldn't have had an issue with him commentating on neutral clubs either. It's just a little too close for my liking and makes me question every opinion on fouls etc. he might have during the game. That said I guess it's no different to having Alvin Martin commentate on West Ham or Stan commentating on the hundreds of clubs he played for .
