That point for me came ten years ago, when England supposedly had a golden generation featuring Ferdinand, Terry, A. Cole, J. Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Owen, Rooney, Hargreaves, etc, but were appalling in the 2006 World Cup. I've watched England games since then, but I've never invested any hope that they will do anything, I've just been a detached observer. I've yet to regret that!
As much as the teams of Sven were slated at the time, they were far better than the current team. Since 2006, the team has got worse and worse, and their performances have got worse and worse. I don't see any evidence that this trend will change. Spain famously underperformed as a national side, in order to reverse this they had to produce better players. England now have worse players than at any time in my life. Germany had a small spell in the doldrums, so they completely re-evaluated the way that their football operates, and how they develop young players. England have failed for decades, but the same mentality and approach prevails.
It's not really akin to dropping Grimsby for Man United because I know Grimsby are a small club and will never do anything. England should be a powerful national team, but they've been dreadful, not for years, not for a couple of tournaments, but for decades! But we're supposed to get excited about Sam Allardyce taking over and be on tenterhooks because Wayne Rooney is retiring after the next World Cup. Really...who cares?”

You started by saying you dropped England ten years ago, to me that sounds like you don't support them anymore.
You finished by saying you had sympathy for anyone who still cared & believed in them.
Thanks for your sympathy, I will always care for my country whether there good or bad.
