I think this is basically inevitable. I thought for some time that there would be a European Super League eventually, but this makes even more sense. China is such a massive market, you can scarcely fail to make money over there with anything popular, and when you see these meaningless pre-season friendlies in the States are there are over 100,000 people there, it's quite obvious that there is huge potential.
Obviously fans of smaller clubs won't like it, but the Champions League is almost a procession anyway. It's natural for the biggest clubs to want to play more games against each other. Sooner or later something of this nature will happen because there is a compelling economic need for it to happen. Don't know what will happen to the other competitions or how it will work, but in this day and age there is little point in Real Madrid playing Legia Warsaw.
Every other sport is organised around getting the biggest protagonists together as often as possible, and I think the big clubs will push for this sooner or later.
