The interesting thing about this for me is that not only has Allardcye been caught red-handed, but also look at the other people the Telegraph have caught. Obviously they're talking it up and making it sound as big as possible, and based on what the agents are saying it's quite possible things have gone on behind the scenes which can't be proven.
But look who they've named today...the assistant manager of Barnsley, the owner of Leeds, who was already a hugely compromised character anyway, and the manager of QPR. Okay, the last one is a fairly big deal, but it's still not a Premier League manager. Not exactly Guardiola and Mourinho, is it?
I suppose I should reserve judgement until we hear the whole story, perhaps they will reveal something later this week. But it seems to me that Allardyce is the only major figure stupid, greedy and immoral enough to get suckered this way. I'm sure they will have tried to get other Premier League managers and major figures in the game, but seemingly they got nowhere.
Not to defend the assistant manager of Barnsley, but it's perhaps understandable why he might be tempted by an envelope full of cash (although he is well paid for what he does by any normal standard). If you're tempted when you're already a multi-millionaire and on a £9 million contract...stupid, greedy, indefensible. That should be obvious because no other major names have gone anywhere near it.
