Watched the RL game with Wigan and Warrington.
Fantastic entertainment and commitment from both teams and although I know little of the detail and tactics of the sport I have really enjoyed every RL game I have watched. Question for you Billy. How come Sheffield hasn't got a top team in this sport? AFAIK Sheffield is the centre of many sports in the region. |

They're dissing the Roon this morning on talkPREM i didn't see the game myself I was watching the darts it's more exciting but it seems we won last night against the might of Malta 2-0 and the Wembley fans were booing Rooney during the game for playing under-par again.
TalkPREM presenters are asking why he's still playing for England, that's easy to answer he wants 126 international caps to beat the record and the suits with the big blazers will keep ordering down the line that he keeps getting them until he breaks the record and only then will he finally retire unless we get a team manager with the b@lls to stand up to him and the emblazoned badged suits and say "NO NO NO he's finished I want to build a new team to look to the future." |

"Gareth Southgate should get the England job" says Sir Trevor Brooking. Could you get a more establishment type figure than this square-mouthed posh talking wassack?.
No he shouldn't Brooking he's never done anything in football management from what I can see, they need to find a man of vision, a real motivator who can get these ##ckers finally kick-started. Someone who will take a few risks to find the formula to success in big tournaments and belatedly at last give us a team who we can be proud of and who each and everyone last one are playing for the badge on their shirts with pride in their hearts to be representing us. >>>All STAND<<< FAT CHANCE OF THAT INIT. |

It doesn't seem to click with the thick muppets that they keep changing managers but nothing changes because.... Rooney is in the team. He can't run has no fitness and just slows England down to a crawl. We have some fast young players but can't use them as old slow coach can't move fast enough.
![]() Do you remember the teenage Rooney in the 2004 Euros? What a star he was then, such a shame he got injured when he did, I think we might have gone all the way that year otherwise (or close). It's all been downhill for England since that particular tournament - my opinion of course .. |

Of course in the end, it comes to naught because the FA are more interested in lining their own pockets then actually putting funding where it's needed. Anyway, in the end, it may as well be Southgate, and hopefully not on the silly money the other managers have been on. No one decent will take the job, hence why are last few managers have been pony. |

Brooking is a perfectly good bloke IMHO., great player and has tried to get the FA to think about doing what is most necessary, i.e. try to employ good coaches to teach technical ability to the yoof in this country.

Strange I never considered Brooking a great player, good player yes but definitely not a great. Why did he get a knighthood so early in his life did he put a lot of his time into charity work? [genuine question I simply don't know] anyway he's never been for me I just figured he says the right things in the right places, talks posh and played for West Ham United a major London club so the FA fell in love.
He's been a sports administrator since 1987 and is well-known for putting a lot back into grass-roots football. As for the "great" argument, perhaps not, but quite frankly I miss players like him and Hoddle who could actually trap the ball, and hit cultured balls all around the park. Something we severely lack nowadays. |

We have Sheffield Eagles who play in the secondary English tier and Rotherham Rugby Union Football Club who play I don't know where.
I'm sure there are others but football is what they are MAD for around here Bangla we have never been big on rugby unlike places like Wakefield which is only a 40 minutes drive away.I was thinking that Sheffield would be as mad for the game as the rest of the area. |

Rooney was being labelled as the new Pele in 2004, Pele himself commented he could rival him as the world's best ever player it really did look that promising. What happened after that was he had a great career but never came anywhere near rivalling the Brazilian maestro nor the great J. Greaves nor R. Charlton or the best of the lot Mr G. Best who for me was the legend to end all legends.
There is always this insane focus on one individual in England who is supposed to be the saviour. Well, Messi has yet to win a major international trophy, and I'm damned sure England haven't produced a player as good as Messi. Even now the focus on Rooney as a scapegoat is symptomatic of this. Yes, he doesn't deserve a place in the team, but...the team isn't good enough and the players aren't good enough. We don't have world-class players in any position. Cahill is having a dreadful season and he's still first-choice centre-back! Hart has been ditched by Man City...still in the team. Other players could be tried, but it's not as if there are loads of brilliant options. Everything has to change from the grassroots upwards. It will take decades, not years, if it ever happens at all. This team will come absolutely nowhere near winning anything because England have had much better teams and players in the past, and those teams won nothing. |

I heard a jingle on TS last week which basically glorified Alan Brazil and his drinking habits. Was that for real or was I dreaming it?!
Horrifyingly bad! |

We give talkSPORT a lot of stick in this thread for obsessing about top level football at the exclusion of almost everything else, but seeing as the Super League Grand Final has been mentioned I think it is right to give them credit where it is due.
On Saturday night, talkSPORT provided full live commentary on the Grand Final in their usual teatime Premier League commentary slot. At the same time, BBC Radio 5 Live were doing commentary on the England v Malta World Cup qualifier. What with the bulk of their Super League coverage being on talkSPORT 2 throughout the season, no-one would have batted an eyelid had talkSPORT kept the Grand Final commentary on their secondary station and broadcast the kind of rolling updates and football discussion programme they usually do when England play a home qualifier on their primary channel. That they didn't do that and instead opted to cover rugby league's showpiece punctuated only by a minimal amount of updates from Wembley Stadium is to their credit. |

Not a big betting man but Paddy Power has just been on Drive and is offering 12/1 against Rooney playing at the 2018 World Cup.
That surely has to be worth a dip into the Bangla millions. |

Every jingle for about the last ten years, have all been the same about the fat booze bag
Whenever there's something of interest this thread lights up as it always has but there's just nothing to talk about apart from premier league and England and a lot of people are sick of both.Credit to Difference for managing to find something to praise them for you did well there Dif I couldn't have managed it although it has to be said after that praise they should also be deeply ashamed of themselves for constantly ignoring all the football league and Scottish clubs because thousands that listen in to them support clubs in those divisions. [apart from no premier league weekends like the last one when they suddenly can't get enough lower league football] On a lighter note just going back to the talkSPORT jingles you mentioned above Sleeper here's a rare treat for you and anyone else that appreciates radio genius [because let's face it we're starved to a pulp on this station] here's the master of all jingle makers Kenny Everett it's just a short clip but I have loads more in stock!. It starts with him doing his famous character Captain Kremmen and then moves onto him ridiculing himself after his sacking from BBC Radio 1 which I particularly find very funny. It should be remembered also he made these jingles himself at home in his shed in around 1970 or just after before they had the studio technology of today which is amazing I simply don't understand how he managed to make them so damn good. >>>Enjoy_Kenny_Everett<<< |

Is it true you lot up there designed the seven-sided heptagon shaped 50 pence piece Bangla so you could get spanners on them to tighten them down in your wallets?.

Wayne Rooney dropped for the clash against Slovenia on Tuesday I didn't see that one coming I'd figured Southgate would play him even with a broken leg. The booing against Malta and public opinion since that game must have got through to Southgate but don't worry too much Wayne you'll get on as a sub at some stage of the match and get yer 118th cap putting you only 7 behind Shilton.
