We give talkSPORT a lot of stick in this thread for obsessing about top level football at the exclusion of almost everything else, but seeing as the Super League Grand Final has been mentioned I think it is right to give them credit where it is due.
On Saturday night, talkSPORT provided full live commentary on the Grand Final in their usual teatime Premier League commentary slot. At the same time, BBC Radio 5 Live were doing commentary on the England v Malta World Cup qualifier. What with the bulk of their Super League coverage being on talkSPORT 2 throughout the season, no-one would have batted an eyelid had talkSPORT kept the Grand Final commentary on their secondary station and broadcast the kind of rolling updates and football discussion programme they usually do when England play a home qualifier on their primary channel. That they didn't do that and instead opted to cover rugby league's showpiece punctuated only by a minimal amount of updates from Wembley Stadium is to their credit. |

Its an old joke from a caller who rung in and thought he was Scottish!
Then the presenter said he was "Finnish" - and the called thought he'd said "Finished!" Trouble for Rooney is that whilst he has done well for England and I actually think given a lot for the country (more than some others..) he is part of a group that have always disappointed when it matters most. Of course you also have the fact that he is just a very well paid footballer with a nasty streak which hardly adheres himself to the public. |

Quite the tradition now is to wrap up presents whilst listening the H and J christmas eve show with the all time best clips on
'As a fellow Celt Alan..........' 'Mansfield 0 Northampton Town 1' Facial hair on a girl I'd heard two versions, two versions |

TS is now giving Jordan Henderson buildup as if he's the best in the world. Jim White,
Tony Scouser Evans, and Micky Graham are all over him as if he's led us to World Cup victory.. Typical TS hype, expect lots of clips with Saggy screaming out his name. Hendo had a decent game against Malta and was responsible for the build up for both goals and he does deserve to be captain for next England game but let's not go overboard. These guys are even interviewing the person that signed him on for Liverpool. Let's see what Jordan does in all the qualifying games for WC in Russia and hope he continues the good work. In Alan's show I thought I heard a clip in which he slagged off Arry. Couldn't believe it. He would never slag him now since he was beatified by TS. |

Casillas, Juanfran, Martinez, Bartra, Alba, Bellerin, Fabregas, Cazorla, Mata, Pedro, Alcacer Pretty good team, I reckon they'd beat England. None of those players were even in the squad of 23 that beat Albania and drew with Italy, never mind the team. And there were others I omitted: Saul Niguez - regular starter for Atletico Madrid, scored the winner against Bayern in the CL semi-final last year. Cesar Azpilicueta - starts every game for Chelsea. Marco Asensio - regular starter for Real Madrid. Denis Suarez - just signed for Barcelona. Fernando Torres - his international career seems to be over now after three major trophies. If Spain had that XI, plus maybe Adrian, Gaspar, Azpiliceuta, Niguez, Asensio, Suarez and Torres on the bench, I'd back them to beat England. But their manager thinks they've got 23 better players than that team! How can anyone possibly get excited about the bang average Jordan Henderson being made captain? Yeah, he's going to be a great 'leader' on the pitch, we need 'leaders' out there. The team are crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. Nowhere near the top teams. Get Napoleon and Genghis Khan out there as 'leaders', it won't make any difference. |

The coverage was great, and the commentary on the station throughout the season has been better than the TV and their rivals on 5Live. I hope it continues into 2017 as well.

One of my favourite clips ever.
Was originally from Talk 107 wasn't it? Anyone catch the England Under-21 game at the home of football this afternoon? Wow. 5-0, which works out at 20p a goal given the ticket prices! After watching that, I reckon the Under-21s would give the full England team a run for their money to say the least. Some of the skill and link-up play on display at the Bescot was superb.

talkSPORT 2's Super League coverage has been outstanding this year and I look forward to listening to it during 2017.
Talkradio especially is becoming like the Talkradio of old [as long as there is no Anna or Lorraine brought back]. |

Sat here watching the England game we're hanging on a bit but at least not losing, it's a slow slow, slow slow slow type build-up game and to be frank we really do look very ordinary.
The bonny Scots are 2-0 [EDIT 3-0] down to Slovakia, keep your chins up Sleeper and Bangla you'll still have caber tossing at the Highland Games to watch on TV when the world cup finals come round.

Am watching the England game here, the girls want to see Man United players and TBH for international football and no goals it has been an alright game to watch.
We were fortunate to get the draw last night Joe Hart won us the point he played really well I can't say that for the others but the important thing is of course dear Wayne won his 118th cap only 7 behind the record.

The bait was dropped yesterday that he wouldn't be in today he was sniffling and coughing so it's no shock he's nowhere to be heard this morning. [is there some big sporting event going on at the moment somewhere?]
It's Max Rushden on today instead, when I switched on I was suddenly quite worried because Cork was on talking and I feared he was back again but it was only a one-off to talk cricket thank god. |

I wonder if Al will be able to rise from his "sickbed" to partake of a glass or two with his cronies at the event? |

England haven't won a knockout game in a major tournament since they beat Ecuador in the 2006 World Cup. Is there any reason whatsoever to believe that they'll improve on this record at the 2018 World Cup?

Poor Al's got the flu let's all spare the poor man a thought this morning.
Right that's it I started this post before midday and it's now turned midday so my thought has now ended. ![]() >>>http://bit.ly/2e0MtVg<<< |

Can't confirm if true or not but reading elsewhere that Mr Brazil in the last five years has missed sixty two days work due to illness or turning up but being too ill (drunk) to go on air while Mr Hawksbee in the same period has missed one day for the same reason/s.
Anyone still think Brazil isn't regarded as irreplaceable by the talkSPORT suits?. On this latest non appearance this morning he was feeling unwell yesterday morning during the show [Tuesday] but apparently felt well enough to go to yet another social bash in the evening until suddenly at 10.00pm he felt unwell again and then rang in to talkSPORT to say he couldn't make it today because he was under the weather. It seems it's easier and less taxing to go out supping free booze all night somewhere than turn up for work sitting down for 4 hours and talking on the radio, two and a half hours minus all the non-content garbage. The day Alan Brazil was born and came out into the light god must have been looking down on him from on high above pointing his finger at him saying, "you will have a cherished life my son I will make sure of it". |

Bit of confliction on Talksport from Saggers tonight...
Fine for Steve Bruce to get another job (and I think he might do well actually) but its the old boys network in action when McLaren gets a job.. Guess its all down to reputation and the latters isn't very high. |

I don't know on what planet a combination of Alan Brazil and Mick Quinn is acceptable radio. Unprofessional and boorish oafs. And that's their good points - C
