While I agree that Steve McClaren gets a tougher rap than he deserves simply due to his England tenure, I think it's really harsh to put down Steve Bruce in that way. While he might not have won a major honour as a manger, he's never been at a club with the resources to realistically challenge to win one of the three major domestic honours in this day and age, unlike McClaren was at Middlesbrough, who when he won the League Cup were a well-established Premier League club consistently finishing in or around the top half.

But Bruce has won four promotions to the Premier League with Birmingham City and Hull City and has taken the latter to an FA Cup final. From the outside looking in, it appears to me that he significantly improved the football culture at both clubs - he brought a number of young players through at Blues who have gone on to have good careers in the game, the Christophe Dugarry team played excellent football in their first PL season, while at Hull recently I was impressed with the way he handled Jake Livermore's return to the team following his drugs ban that had stemmed from sad personal issues. With all that in mind, I think he's the right man for the challenges that face Aston Villa - namely mounting a serious promotion challenge, achieving success in the Play-Offs if they get there, integrating young players from the youth team into the first team and managing a talented "problem player" like Jack Grealish (who was excellent at the Bescot on Tuesday, and definitely can be a successful player if he applies himself well) in the correct manner.

I actually thought that Bruce would have made a vastly superior choice of England manager to Allardyce, both have similar records in club management (I don't think McClaren's is massively better either) but Bruce has a much better record of developing young British players and I think his skillset - and personality - is better suited to that job.

Sir Matt Busby family 'snubbed by Manchester United'

By Daniel Lewis, Football League Correspondent

Manchester United have stopped allowing Sir Matt busby's family entry to the directors' box at Old Trafford on matchdays, according to a report.

It is claimed by The Sun that the Red Devils have also removed a gold name plaque from his old seat, which had remained in place for the past two decades since his death.

Busby's son and and daughter are no longer alive, but it is understood that his seven granddaughters still attend games at the Theatre of Dreams.

A source is quoted by the newspaper as saying: "When Sir Alex Ferguson was here he was keen to make Sir Matt's son, daughter and seven granddaughters part of modern-day United.

"But in recent years the Busby legacy seems to have faded. The powers that be said it's time the club 'moved on' and it has started with the removal of the tickets in the directors' box for four family members.

"It hasn't gone down well. They called the family about the plaque and said 'We can stick it in the post if you want?' United play on being the family club with all this history but this kind of treatment is callous."

The club has since denied the story, claiming that tickets and hospitality are still provided to Busby's relatives.

A few things I'd like changed.

International caps only given for playing in competitive games none for friendlies.

International caps only given for having taken part in a full game none for coming on as a substitute.

This would make winnings caps worthy again so they would mean something instead of giving them out like confetti so they are virtually meaningless.

Stop all these international weekend breaks when all our domestic football is cancelled it's ridiculous and serves no purpose, those that might argue about this please tell me by reply where and when we have benefited from it. [Good luck with that one by the way]

Go back to calling linesmen linesmen.

Scrap the 4th official, or make him sit in the stand as an emergency referee and put an end to all this baiting of them by moaning managers.

Make all managers sit in a dugout, people want to see the players not the managers shouting and balling acting like maniacs, let's go back to it being about the players again.

Ban bloody players wearing gloves.

Ban 'em wearing tights.

That'll do for now.

Read about those players on wiki.
The guy who sorted it sounds like a total idiot. Selling his story to the paper for 7k cost him a few years in jail.

Liked the story Bob Mills came out with about the football game Pope Francis organised for peace and Maradona had to be taken off for having a row!
Can't wait to tell Mrs B as Maradona was her idol when he played for Napoli. And he's a bit of a hero of mine for the Hand of God

I have to make it clear I've only bits and pieces of him so far but Dean Saunders from what I have caught sounds an interesting and funny guy how the hell has be got chosen for the breakfast show they are only supposed to put dull thick people on there with views that died with the dinosaurs.

When I find out when he's on next I might well listen because he sounds rather decent and this is from someone who very seldom rates anyone or anything on this crummy station.

Didn't hear much but I heard Dean talking about his time in Turkey which was great.

I agree with a lot of your list, particularly I am strong advocate of using technology for refereeing decision in football. What officials are being asked to do is impossible and it's just insane that the world's biggest sport is so reluctant to embrace technology when it would definitely lead to better decision making.

But the biggest thing I would like to see change above all else is...no-one involved in football should ever say anything like "it's been hard for the players". I just heard someone on H&J who went from playing football to an office job, and he said that he used to work four hours per day when he played football.

Good luck to them, I'm not envious of their lifestyles. I feel lucky to be doing what I'm doing. Just don't tell me that your lives are hard. It's so insulting to the average person, let alone all of the billions of people in the world who live in real poverty.

Nice little tribute to racing man Derek Thompson next door on TF [don't fret he ain't pegged it] with plenty of usage of the words and phrases “Guys” “By The Ways” “I Had A Lot of Time For Hims” and general joviality with early morning sports radio show king Alan Brazil [] and the then sidekick Ronald Charles Irani.

I miss old Thommo I loved his mannerisms and his charm, always upbeat and cheerful and just a really nice guy, they shafted him and got rid and it is to their detriment he is no longer still there.

Note in this clip I've linked he amazingly doesn't name-drop his son being involved in the Scotland rugby squad that must have been a first.

Considering the vast amounts of money now involved in football, and considering the degree of peril managers are now always in regarding their jobs I too now think it's time for modern technology to be introduced into professional football in this country.

I certainly haven't always advocated this but I do now because football has become more than a weekend pastime like it maybe was when I was young, millions and actually billions of pounds are now involved and sometimes critical things all come down to did a ball cross a white painted line.

I personally wouldn't want Wimbledon tennis style cameras fixed everywhere all over a football pitch deciding everything during a game but I'd have them on goal lines doing a job proving beyond doubt whether a claimed goal was a real goal or not I really think now we need them.

Currently there is no goal line technology in the UK is there?, on 1966 yes it would have been handy if i'd been around back then to prove it was a goal!!!.

To be deadly serious Bangla I don't think we'll ever really properly know if it crossed the line in '66.
