I really enjoyed hearing Ted MacDougall's stint as Hawksbee & Jacobs' studio guest after 2.15pm today. They had him in for the best part of 45 minutes - first to take a nostalgic look back at his career in the game in order to promote his autobiography, before he became the subject of their new-ish Re Focus feature (where a former player tries to remember the answers he gave to a Shoot magazine Q&A article 20 to 40 odd years ago) and was then the "Pro" on The Fools Panel.

It helped that Ted sounded like a really nice guy with some fun anecdotes to share, but I think getting an ex-player from the 80s or earlier who you rarely hear from these days in regularly on Fridays to first have a chat and then do Re Focus and The Fools Panel would be a good move. Of course H&J have their strongest hour of the week on Fridays from 3pm, what with Martin Kelner, Todd Macklin and then the Clips of the Week, but I thought having a nice nostalgic focus in the second hour was a good way to set that up and encourage listeners to catch the whole show.

All very true. It was a great show. Ted was a brilliant guest, and the magazine Q&A was especially amusing. Kelner is always funny, as are the COTW. Immature as it is, the names of the contributors always make me chuckle. Russell Sprouts clip was particularly funny

Yes, it was a top show. I always listen to the Friday 3pm hour (usually on Listen Again), but managed to catch most of the show live today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was surprised Martin Kelner had never seen Paul Sykes at Large before, can't believe that documentary (famed by Bob Mills on In Bed with MeDinner) had escaped his attention until Paul brought it up the other week!

Couldn't find your fixture this week on my usual fixtures website Sleeper so looked on another one and it said clearly you were playing Hamilton Academical FC, sorry buddy [and Bangla] can't understand it at all.

I haven't listened to all the H&J show yet, but I'm sure it'll be really good.

It's fascinating to me that virtually everything else on the station gets slagged off on here, but people have virtually nothing but good things to say about that programme.

That suggests to me that there is a market for intelligent content, and they don't have to chase the lowest common denominator to the extent that they do.

I wish they would pay attention to this because there is no doubt in my mind that the content of TS is getting worse.

Klopp is getting to be a real joker.
he said he was ready for the way that WBA will play because he's just played
Man Utd and thats the way they play, long ball merchants.
Ooooh missus, didn't go down well with the Man Utd fans at TS.

I listen to H&J whenever I can and have done for many years its a good mix of sport/ (not just football) news and nearly always makes me chuckle.

I think by its very nature talk radio is like marmite what one person loves another hates but because they don't insult the listener or make stupid comments like Durham just to get a reaction most people enjoy listening and most of all it just works.

Klopp reminds me of how Mourinho used to be in fact that comment could have come out of any of his conferences these days he looks to stressed and serious to crack jokes.

Thanks for the comments men the audio quality is a bit shabby these days I think slicing it up all over the place over time has damaged it regrettably. Ronnie's words right at the end clearly shows he was fired pretty abruptly without much notice he didn't even know if he was being kept on to do the cricket show.
It has intrigued me ever since he left just who actually wanted him out there, Quinny should have lent Ronnie a hand and passed on the negatives to him he's got locked in his bank deposit box they've kept Mick safe there so far.

Two muppets called Darren and Johnny mistakenly rang talkRADIO last Friday night thinking they'd rang Goldstein & Cundy on sister station talkSPORT.

When Iain Lee answered they quickly realised what they'd done but decided to hang around to make a prank call, sadly for them they were up against one of the kings of prank calling who swiftly worked out what was going on and then slowly hung them both out to dry.

Eamonn Holmes program this morning was the Keith Lemon interview episode for the third time this year. Does he no longer work at Talkradio?.

Slightly wrong thread but what does it really matter, sorry I can't help as it's one of the few shows I don't bother listening to on talkRADIO.
It's a great new station but his slot is one I would change along with Paul Ross on the breakfast show [James Whale would be great] and I'd completely change all the weekend schedule.

This United team is dire to watch and bereft of creativity, guile, craft, technique and ultimately entertainment. They're not even effective and it is literally the most expensive squad ever assembled by any football club.

Last 7 games: very lucky to beat Hull 1-0, lost 2-1 to City, lost 1-0 to Feyenoord, lost 3-1 to Watford (don't count the Mickey Mouse Cup against Northampton), had a good win against Leicester 4-1 with 3 goals from set-pieces, scraped past Zorya Luhansk 1-0, drew 1-1 with Stoke, drew 0-0 with Liverpool.

Sorry, not very good.”

Okay, I was wrong. United are worse than I suggested.
