Just seen one of these new 42" Panasonic Viera plasmas at my local dixons, must say it was really impressive.

The picture quality was superb, far better than I have seen from other plasmas.

It was priced at about £2200, as well which isn't too bad, but I was told by the sales rep that the only Plasma model they had which would be 100% compatible with Sky's HD-TV system later this year is the Pioneer 43" plasama they had, which is priced at about £2900. Apparently the Pioneer had something called HDM interface, which is a must if you want HD-TV.

The pioneer one also looked good, a bit brighter than the Panasonic but I thought the Panasonic had more clarity and better colour reproduction in the picture.

Now i'm considering whether I should go for the Pioneer instead, or maybe I should wait for another year and see what is and what isn't comptible, once the Sky HD TV system is launched later this year.. a

Would Panasonic not be planning to include the HDM interface in their plasmas in the near future, if that is the only way to get HD-TV on them? surely,

If you are not desperate for an expensive flat panel right now then you will only gain both in terms of money saved and display performance by waiting

I take it this wasn't the Panasonic panel you saw?

That's interesting, the Panasonic 42" Viera plasma I saw at Dixons , looks exactly like the one you've just posted, so I'm assuming it was that one. But according to this site, it is HD -Ready and has the HDMI input, needed for HD-TV.. and has more or less same price, so what is going on?

Either this is an identical looking but different (more recent ) model of the same Plasma, or Ive been told porkies by the bloke at Dixons? he insisted that Panasonics are not HD compatible at all, the only manufacturer that is HD compative for plasmas in the UK, is Pioneer.. from what I was told, I thought that can't be right, surely? but he insisted that this was the case and not many consumers are aware of these facts so they've wasted a couple of grand going for slim plasmas but they'll be in for a shock when it turns out their screens are not HD-compatible once Sky launches its service later this year.. ?

The Panasonic Viera 42PV500 which is due next month is fully HD ready, I suspect the one you saw was the PE50 model which isn't HD compatible. A lot of people are waiting for the 42PV500 model, it would seem you might not have to wait as long as you thought after all!

I think panasonic are doing some HD ready plasmas. Check the panasonic shop for their full range.
