Watching Emmerdale episodes from 2004 and these two seemed genuinely in love, why was Robert so full of hate for her when he came back. Karl and sammy had very good chemistry together and from what I can see he was the one who cheated on her so him being the bitter one makes no sense.

No, it didn't make any sense for them to be as against each other as they were right from the second he returned.
Like a lot of this incarnation of Robert, there is no logical connection to the last one. The other glaring thing being thati honestly don't believe that either of the prior 2 robert's was struggling with their sexuality, going off for random hookups off screen, or only with his various girlfriends because he was in denial.
As you say, he and Katie were genuinely in love for a long time.

She was married to Andy at the same time which was part of the attraction for Robert. They divorced in 2007 and married again in 2014. The gay storyline KO cooked up was/is completely unbelievable and out of character to anyone who watched Karl Davies' Robert last time round. (he's in Brief Encounters now)

I think initally it was part of the attraction but he was genuinely besotted with her, he was just to selfish to be faithful. They worked well together and I found their relationship one of the few believable soap affairs.The mutual attraction built up for years.

Katie had a lot of 'mutual attractions'. David was one of the many.
It was all so unbelievable with no reasons or sense to it.
Robert returned as an unrecognisable person from the one we had seen before.
His instant hatred and slut shaming was ridiculous and the whole story bascially trashed the Robert and Katie history, and trashing Katie in pàrticular.
Furthermore, Sammy and Karl had real chemistry, which was something sorely lacking with Ryan and Sammy, and that only went to make the whole, rotten Katie exit story even worse.
Only Tina's exit from Corrie sucked more than Katie's.

I agree that Sammy and Karl worked quite well together. In general, I'm not a huge fan of Ryan's performance as Robert. I know I'm in the minority there, but I thought Karl was far superior.

So did I and I didn't like his Robert either.
The current Robert worshippers will never have seen Karl's Robert though. I doubt this actor will do as well after Emmerdale.

Karl was far better actor. This current Robert is a one dimensional panto villain. Katl was asked back for the story but turned down the offer. My guess is Robert would have left the village with Katie, but they rewrote the story once they knew he wouldn't return
I put Robert's change of character down to being exiled from his father, family and village at his fathers insistence because of his involvement in Max Kings death. On his return finds that Katie had moved on and back to Andy, love turned to hate.

Robert became detestable but Jack played a large part in the way he became, even when they were still young kids Jack blatant favouritism bordered on child abuse. I can see why he ba me so bitter towards Jack and Andy but I never bought his hatred for Katie or his attraction to Aaron.

I don't think it was favouritism. Andy loved the land and spent a lot of his time helping Jack so they were together a lot. Robert had no time for farming and wouldn't help at all. Also with Andy being adopted Jack may have felt he needed that bit more attention.

Child abuse seems like a really extreme way to describe it. I think all it was is that Andy and Jack had things in common more so than he and Robert.

In my opinion that would have been a much more realistic story and better ending for Katie.
Robert and Katie felt like proper lovers while Andy and Katie were more like great friends who loved each other.

I thought they were a great match when Karl was Robert. The stealing her just to spite Andy and that Robert was a narrative Kate Oates made up, he was passionately in love with her at one point. He was devestated when she married Andy and was even willing to give up his entire family just to be with her

Seeing that Sammy Winward was leaving there was no reason why they couldn't have Katie fall for Robert again resulting in them leaving together or Katie becoming mud in the village and leaving on her own. Karl would only have returned for a short stint so Katie and Robert leaving together would have been more likely.
In my opinion this new Robert should have been a brand new character not Robert Sugden. I would have no problem with him if he was a new character.

Hello.
I would have liked Katie to have had a nice, happpy ending and left with Andy.
If that was not to be, they could have left her in a coma. Would have been nice to see evil Sugden suffer for ever wondering if she'd ever wake up.
