A beautifully filmed episode.

Shirley trying to tell Pam and Pam's denial was a great scene

Steve and Adam are always top notch

Intertwining the Carters excitement over Whitney's pregnancy to break up the sadness was fine, it shows while there is tragedy at one end of the street there will be excitement and laughter at the other.

Like Keyser I've always liked Pam and Les, and their performances were lovely tonight they really did get their moment to shine.

Harry Reid was fabulous, his portrayal of a tortured soul, which is essentially what Ben has always been, was spot on.

10/10 for me heartbreaking

Very hard hitting episode. I kinda don't want it to be a gay hate attack as I'll find that difficult to watch (personally - being gay myself) BUT I do think it'll be good awareness if that were the case.

Paul may not be the best character but I enjoyed his relationship with Ben. What a sad time for Ben, Pam and Les and all 3 actors played the part well.

Just watched the episode, wow, that was sad, Lin,Roger and Harry were so good tonight, best episode since Peggy died, imo.

I hope them flowers that the people laid down didn't come from Pam stall.

Yep.

I see some on Twitter missed the point about Pam being in denial, a realistic reaction. http://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-...il-Shirley-Ben

Just wondering if I have missed something along the way, Phil told them at the hospital that the body wasn't ben. The Woman that was there told the DCI who then sat with Phil and Ian and told them they were looking for ben as they believed he had been in the same incident as Paul and was a significant witness. but up until 5 minutes before they thought ben was dead? So how could they know ben and Paul were in the same incident? he didn't even know ben and Paul were a couple! And he also said Phil should go home as that's where Ben would head for - so he wasn't concerned that maybe ben was in need of help too he just seemed fairly sure he was going to turn up OK. it would suggest that they know more about what has gone on already, he did say they had been looking into things since Paul was found...

Great episode. People usually overrate Eastenders dramatic episodes but that was one of the best written and best acted episodes in any soap I can remember for a long time. Eastnders best episode this year, better than any of the episodes about peggs death or anything about stacey slater. And it was about Paul Coker lol. Far sadder than kylies death in Cornation Strett which was overrated and she was a much more significant character than Paul. Superb acting from Pams actress especially, her reaction to Shirley was so good. I'm shocked at how good that episode was really

I didn't care for the character of Paul, but this was a heartbreaking episode. I echo the other posts about it being a beautifully written and acted piece of drama. It would be a good one to enter for the BAFTA nominations next year.

It reminded me in some ways of the time that Debbie (Nigel's wife) died. But tonight's episode was probably better overall.

I was stuck in a meeting from 9.15am to noon but managed to get rest of the day to myself but it's horrible being stuck at work on the one decent day in the Sorcha my sympathies are with you
We always said, "If you can't make a decision, have a meeting". tea, biscuits and a chance to chill out

Imagine Les having to arrange his grandsons funeral.
I would hope he would employ a decent place. His place must be the smallest undertakers ever

Don't want to lower the tone here, but could Phil ask for Paul's liver?
Why? Philth couldn't care less that Paul was dead

Christ, this is excruciating. And Pam really is unpleasant.
How ?

If Emma Summerhayes was alive, I reckon she'd have been used for this storyline.
She was hopeless

Pam has neat handwriting.
Her note did not make sense

Why is Lee Carter so daft
Lee is very annoying. He needs to go.
He looks gormless. He sounds gormless. He acts gormless. HE IS GORMLESS.
So Shirley and buster will be great grandparents
They have not been great grandparents so far

Ben got beaten up too
i bet ben killed him
Could be

I hope that pig Babe leaves the Cokers alone now.
Why would she ?

****ing hell Phil you heartless shut. All you needed to do was use Paul's ducking name
Donald ?

The funeral is going to be so emotional
If it's like 90% of soap funerals it will be a farce

I reckon Sharon would've been a surprisingly good shoulder for Ben to cry on right about now. I like their scenes together.
Her shoulders are certainly wide enough

I think there'll be more to it. Ben probably won't want to let on to Phil that it was a homophobic attack as Phil isn't and has never been comfortable with him being gay.

The Mitchells have certainly been rammed down our throats in recent months but I think the only reason they featured in these spoilers etc over the Cokers is because the show held back the fact it was really Paul who dies, and wanted us to believe it was Ben.

Sharon's been involved in a lot of storylines lately so I'm actually glad to be getting a break from her here.

It was refreshing to see Shirley rallying the family last night as Shirley in her usual blunt way, and not Sharon doing it as a take off of Peggy.

Don't get me wrong I don't dislike Sharon atm but she has been used a lot and her flapping around the Mitchells as a Peggy tribute act does get a bit tiresome.
Agree with all of this. Esp the BIB. I really enjoyed Shirley's interaction with the Mitchells, she fits in well with them and I hope this interaction continues. It would be good to see Shirley give Ben a shoulder to cry on during this considering their past closeness. I like that Shirley has her own way rather than how they are making Sharon imitate Peggy. Can't Sharon just be Sharon?

Such a shame that JL was axed, Paul had a lot of potential and I think they axed him too soon. Having said that, the emotion of the episode was spot on and we had some great performances last night.

Is Ben still supposed to be deaf? He appeared to hear everything well enough when he learned of Paul's death to go into a rage despite the fact he was half dead when he walked into the house.

He certainly did from Paul - usually beside a coffin.

I think they had conversations off screen and that's how the doctor knew that Ben was with Paul. I think the doctor told Phil to go home as Ben would head there as a way of getting Phil home as he could see he
wasn't in good shape.

I think the saddest portrayal last night was Les. He put Pam before his own grief and reaction, firstly letting her come to terms and accept that Paul was dead herself even though he though he wasn't in denial and knew Paul was dead and then staying strong and only giving in to his grief when he wasn't with Pam.

Claudette will suffocate Babe with her gigantic titties.
Please God let that happen!

I found Pam and Les so touching last night and just wanted to kick the Carters off screen! Can you imagine how affecting that episode would have been without the Carters ruining the touching scenes by coming in so happy go lucky. Well all of them except Lee the dumbo!

Where's Ronnie? Shouldn't she be around the family too?
I thought that myself! It was one of those "Mitchell family" scenes yet a lot of them were missing. What would Peggy have said?

I must have missed that bit.

Maybe it was the implant that helped him to recover from his injuries so quick as well.

Agreed with this. Les perfectly encapsulated that generational attitude of a 'stiff upper lip'. He was completely and utterly supportive of Pam yet he was clearly breaking down on the inside. Roger Sloman has such an expressive, vulnerable face and he nailed every nuance. Performance of the night for me.
