Nexus 5X EE WiFi Calling
I have the above with WiFi calling enabled.
All is usually fine during the day. I leave my phone on overnight as it is also my alarm clock and every morning WiFi calling isn't on until I reboot the phone. Any ideas anyone? |

Unfortunately this seems to be a known bug with this handset.

Thanks. I suspected this might be the case but couldn't find any info. Not overly worried. I have a good 4G signal at home, it's just nice to have wifi calling in the background in case of network problems. Perhaps I will only switch it on in those circumstances.
My Nexus 5X has just updated to android 7.1.1. EE support tell me wifi calling is enabled on my account, and I had the "Great news, WiFi calling is now set up on your phone"... text. I can switch the setting on and off, but the network under the mobile strength triangle just stays saying EE. I've tried going into flight mode and turning wifi back on - can't place calls in that mode. I'll chase EE again later, but would be good to know that other 5Xs are working OK! |

How are you getting on with it recently? I've only just switched to EE from T-mobile 3G and am struggling to get Wifi Calling working.

We've tried all the usual things you find in online forums such as different WiFi channels etc all to no avail. At the end of the day we are fortunate to have a good 4g signal at home so don't really need WiFi calling unless there is a network problem, so usually don't bother with it anymore. I don't have time in life for a lot of faffing about. It either works or not. If it doesn't, so be it. As for the 5x I can no longer comment as my daughter is on a BT sim and they don't yet offer WiFi calling |

Since I wrote this post, things have changed somewhat. My daughter broke her phone and has taken on my Nexus 5x and I bought myself the Nexus 6p. I enabled WiFi calling but frankly I find it a bit flaky insofar as people on the other end often assume I'm on a mobile and complain the signal is dropping!!! I can always hear them perfectly. We have exactly the same problem on my wife's Samsung S6.

Got this solved today. I went through first level support's tick the boxes checks - confirming that the EE settings on the account were correct for wifi calling and that I wasn't being daft, then got advanced to level 2. Level 2 can see how our calls are routing - via the cell, via wifi calling or via a femtocell - no sign of my phone ever connecting via wifi calling. Suggested I go to the nearby EE store and try SIM swapping with a SIM and handset that worked with wifi calling - would show if it was a handset issue, or a SIM/account issue. EE store very helpful and the fault followed the SIM to their phone, and their SIM immediately showed wifi calling working in my phone. They swapped my account to a fresh SIM and hey presto - all up and working straight away.
Tl;dr: fault on my week old EE SIM, swapping account to a fresh SIM fixed it. |
