Must admit I was watching the video for Say Hello, Wave Goodbye from Soft Cell on Top of the Pops 1982 last week and there is a bit in there in a dance club where there are doing some very Argentine Tango-ish moves and I thought it might work on Strictly - slightly left-field but not as bad as some song choices we've seen.

I'd like them to use ballroom dance music "for a change," from any era...I don't mind.

Both Waltz and Viennese Waltz should be in 3/4 time. The tune you are talking about appears to be in 4/4 time. Slowing it down wouldn't turn it into a waltz.

I must admit I don't think much of the tune regardless of time signature! Of course that is only my opinion. |

Thanks for this. I wasn't able to find any example on youtube that was in 3/4 time though. I suppose I should have looked harder.
I must admit I don't think much of the tune regardless of time signature! Of course that is only my opinion. imo it's more 6/8 than 3/4 with how the percussion falls but a waltz rhythm either way. You get a lot covers on youtube though so maybe they were in 4/4. You can also count the first and fourth beat and hear 4/4 time too.I think it's a lovely song and can see why people would use it in a wedding dance. The lyrics are perfect for a wedding day. Bit too pacey for vw though i think. |
