It would depend on what his eyesight problem is and the severity.

Some people really can't see anything without their glasses, generally if they are very short sighted - I know people that need t put them on to find their own toilet if they wake up in the night.

However, i've worn glasses since i was 6 years old as I have a lazy left eye so need that corrected. However the eyesight in my right eye is very, very good (can get right down to the last line at the Opticians) so although i'd have a really bad headache after a few hours, I could get home without them in an emergency. Actually i have, it was only about half an hour as i was st my local station but i had a bad fall and they broke and i didn't have a spare set with me so had no choice but to.

Depends on the strength of the glasses. I can get around without mine walking but not driving as I can barely see 10 feet without it being blurry.

Well I wear glasses and without them my vision is weakened substantially.

I can still see though it's not like a cartoon where a glasses wearer suddenly goes blind without them lol

It was an emergency and Ben's first priority was to get home safely so of course he had to manage without them.

Don't forget his hearing aid also..I presume that stayed in tact??

There's literally a single road that goes from Soho to the East End through Clerkenwell and Old Street. It was 50/50 whether he chose the right direction and then he'd be fine, glasses or not.

I am disappointed to learn that Ben Mitchell is not based on Velma after all.

There are still quite a few roads that you need to cross (Grays Inn road for one) so need to be able to see traffic but yes, assuming he has a basic knowledge of. London geography, he wouldn't need to be reading road names or anything - it is a straight line.

Or other way, just follow the central line, station to station down Holborn,Fleet st, sSt Pauls, Cheapside Bank, on past Liv St through Wapping.

I'm pretty sure that Velma is severely short sighted.

I'm fully imagining him stumbling around London going "mah glasses! I can't see without mah glasses!"

I can't see well without mine but managed to get home when I broke them, even having to take 2 buses

I've had to manage without my glasses in the past when they got damaged. I have very poor eyesight but I would still have been able to get home from London if necessary. It all depends on how poor your eyes are and I don't think Ben's eyesight is meant to be all that bad.

There was a recent episode where he put them on after doing paperwork (or at least sitting at the desk) in the Arches but he also wore them in the scenes where he was rolling around with Paul so

I wear glasses for reading and watching the telly, but I can still see perfectly well to drive and get about on foot.

Ben's prescription never looked very strong anyway .. you can sometimes tell when the character is viewed from a rear three-quarter position, that's when the lenses tend to appear most obvious.

Exactly.

If he is longsighted, he'd probably be able to cope fine provided he didn't need to read much. Might get a bit of a headache if he is used to wearing them all the time but that is about it.

People do not become blind when they take their glasses off.
