I love Steven, think he's settled in nicely

In last night's episode, it was the very subtle way he shut Kathy out of the room when Ben was told the news about Paul. Was he doing that because he genuinely felt it was better coming from Phil and Ian, or was he playing mind games with her? That's what I love about the character, that uncertainty.

Of course I could be reading him completely wrong but he's far more interesting to watch this way then if he was simply a loving son to a 'father' who disowned him, and a loving boyfriend to shallow Lauren who moved from his brother to him in the blink of an eyelid.”

Well spotted I never took notice of this but very clever if this was the idea behind it.

Plus Aaron Sidwell is HOT - i know that has no relevance but I just thought I would say it

I hope that was the idea behind it. I can see Steven eventually playing on the whole family's insecurities, in order to secure his position within it. But maybe I'm giving EE too much credit.

And yes, he really is gorgeous. I love that he looks a bit dirty with that glint in his eye. Very hot.

Really? I think he's a bit "so what?", clearly just a replacement for Ben Hardy.

Hopefully they can make him a bit more "Steven-y" in a few months. He was always a little gobshite and he should continue being one.

I don't think he's going to turn out to be a bad lad. Ben is unpredictable and could well have lashed out..it made sense to protect Kathy.

He's ten times the character that Peter was...he has a personality for a start. And he's a man now not a gobby kid.

I think you can read it either way. The thing is that Steven had clear mental health issues during his last stint and apart from one conversation with Kathy, it hasn't been acknowledged this time round. Neither has his sexuality, apart from the subtle flirting with Johnny. And the actor himself has hinted that we'll see Steven's dark side. I just feel it's building up to something though I do acknowledge that he could genuinely be trying his best to support the family and isn't plotting anything... yet.

I don't think you are giving EE too much credit. Last nights episode was so well written that your observation makes sense. A subtle hint of what's to come.

They only have two really decent young males in the show, Martin and Steven. It would be foolhardy to ruin them. By all means they can have him as a bit of a scoundrel and flirt but not an out and out villain. They already have Ben for that.

The main difference being, Aaron can act and doesn't come across like a plank of wood like Ben did!

My theory is, if Ben and Johnny get together, Ben is still reeling from the loss of Paul and still doesn't feel comfortable and 100% about himself, therefore blowing hot and cold on Johnny and the relationship being on/off. Johnny and Steven form after Johnny gets fed up of waiting for Ben.”

Does everyone know something the rest of us don't?

Steven is with Lauren, i.e. he's heterosexual. So what's all this stuff about pairing him off with Ben or Johnny? He doesn't look as if he's got a gay bone in his body .. it doesn't make any sense.

In Steven's last stint he fancied Christian and broke up with Stacey.

He's clearly got a gay bone for Johnny.

A large part of this forum assumes all male characters will be involved in gay storylines and if there is not chance they just hope there this.

I have a feeling this new producer might have less gay storylines and perhaps Lauren and Steven will stay together just to be different

I don't think that's the case here. Steven was gay in his last stint and when he returned to the square there was an obvious highly -charged moment when Johnny saw him walk into the pub. Steven also made a note of checking johnny's name before telling him he would see him around. Whilst the writers may well be committed to keeping Steven with Lauren (and I have no problem with this!) they have obviously set up the potential for future storylines if they do decide to go down a different route.

He is a fairly interesting character although I'm finding it annoying that they've never really addressed the how and why of Lauren no longer being with Peter and is now shacked up with his half brother Steven. Even weirder that the likes of Ian have never really asked about it either.

Steven in the show opens the door for a Wicksy comeback as well, Nick Berry has said he is possibly open to doing it as well, although I would guess it would only be a short-term thing as I think he's more or less retired from acting.
