My 2tb sky box has updated overnight with new features to the EPG. The home screen now shows top picks taking up the whole bottom half of the screen with the usual boxes at the top. Also each recording now has a line next to it showing how far you are into each program. Similar to netflix. Also when you watch anything from on demand it now automatically records the next episode.

There is also a continue tab added to the planner which shows all unfinished shows. Also pressing settings now brings up 8 screens including a new radio section.

Anyone else got this update? I dint even know there was a new update due.

Finally! Been watching The Sopranos and it's annoying having to search for the show and then download each individual ep (#firstworldproblems)

So does that means you can now almost series link catch up shows. So for instance if I watched last nights Eastenders episode from BBC Iplayer does that mean that it will download tomorrow nights episode as soon as it is available on there? IF so this is a good feature. Before if I have not recorded a new series form live tv and started it from on demand I often forget about it. Now it will do it for me. Sounds good.

Deleted items no longer stay until the box is full up, but have an 'expiry' date {related to date of deletion) when they are permanently deleted without further warning.

Yes,
It works when you watch a programme from catch up and boxsets.
The next next episode will automatically download when it is available and will appear in your planner.

You missed a full stop, the actual wording was:

When you watch a programme from Catch Up, Sky Box Sets, Top Picks, Kids or Sports, the next episode will now automatically be downloaded. When it's available to watch, you’ll find the recording in your Planner.

I read that as saying it will automatically download the next episode for you, if it is there, not that it will automatically download it when it appears (ie, the next day for something like Eastenders), but I could be wrong.

That's a separate project. It's currently testing with a limited group and is due to start rolling out in September. There's a press release from Sky with details on their site (can't get to it at the moment due to the BT broadband screwup...)

i don't suppose there's now an option to turn off that incredibly annoying 'press green for next episode' that pops up near the end of a downloaded program?
One of the advantages of downloads is no voiceover at the end, so instead they've found another way to take you 'out of the moment'.
If they are now downloading automatically, I can make my own way to the planner and watch when I'm ready.

Is that what it's for, to take you to the next episode in your planner? I thought it was to download the next episode in the background. It's pretty pointless then as that pops up a couple of mins before the episode has even finished.

The next episode should start downloading automatically, as you watch the current one, the "press green to watch the next episode" does just that, when you press green, it automatically starts the next episode.

If you download a boxset that is not a 'featured' one, for example The Sopranos, you have to search for it under All and then individually download each episode. The only time that's worked for me is if the boxset is on the main screen and you actually get the option to download the whole series.

I don't know, but you were replying to a post about the "press green button" prompt that comes up at the end of a program, i was explaining what it does (it plays the next episode, if it is in your planner).

That's correct. I am re-watching The West Wing from box sets and download a couple of episodes a night and this message appears just when the second one is there waiting.

It only appears for about two seconds and I often miss seeing it so I do not find it annoying.

I do find having to search the box sets to download a big pain because - for a reason I am puzzled by - they start the list with the last series. So if you are watching from the start of a 7 series show you are having to scroll through page after page of episodes to get back to near the start.

So this update when we eventually get it (last time that was months after everyone else sadly) will be a huge plus.

Well done Sky for these improvements.

I would agree if they included an option to turn the message off, because I hate having my enjoyment of tense moments at the end of an episode ruined by an intrusive message.
That's why I was hoping this update would include such an option (as they do with the red button for example).

One way to a avoid the message is to hide future dowloaded episodes in the deleted tab then reinstate them. Useful if you download a few episodes at a time.

But don't keep them there for more than 60 days or they will be gone!
It was suggested that the "watch next" prompt should be able to be disabled in the menus.
It was suggested that the green button should still work in that case, but the on screen message would not appear.
Sadly (IMO) Sky chose not to implement that.

Can't say I like having half the screen tied up with 'Today's Top Picks'. I never watch live TV so I'm always looking several days ahead. Knowing what's on today is useless because if I want to watch it it'll already be set to record in the Planner. Now I have an extra button press to get to Suggestions.

I also haven't worked out how to get to the options with my Harmony One yet but that's less of an issue since I rarely go in there.

Seems to be similar to the software update that Virgin Media are currently rolling out for their TiVo box.

It seems Sky are really speeding up their updates at the moment. It doesn't seem that long ago we got the last one.

You read that correctly. It's a shame it does not work for future episodes...

I downloaded monday nights second episode of Coronation Street yesterday afternoon and went to the end of the recording to see if it would automatically download the wednesday episode when it became available. It didnt. So it can't be used as a series link for future episodes. Only for episodes already there.

Sorry if I'm acting dumb and it's already been explained. But my question is when my update comes through say I've downloaded tonight's late show wirh James cordon and watched it, sky haven't got the next episode available yet till tomorrow as it hasn't aired in America yet, but as I've alrelady downloaded tonight's episode and watched it will it automatically put the next episode in my planner tomorrow when sky finally add the next episode tomorrow night? Therefore I wont have to go searching for the next episode? It would be good if if can be done they can add a series link symbol too show it'll download the next episode when available and option to turn on and off as who says you want the next episode of every show to download?

Sorry I must be a pain but do you mean every recording now as an expiry date after so many days or do you mean everything you delete that ends up in the deleted items will be automatically deleted eventually? At the moment I delete a show then ends up in deleted items and then have to manually delete all the deleted items
