Currently, there are so many EE characters with potential but are underused. For example, Paul Coker was severely underused and now he's been killed off. Who do you think is underused (or who is overused), and what storyline should be given to them to get the audience to invest in their character once again?

My list personally includes:
Masood Ahmed
Denise Fox
Carmel Kazemi
Shakil Kazemi
Kyle Slater
Jay Brown
Donna Yates
Buster Briggs
Johnny Carter
Lee Carter
Whitney Dean
Abi Branning

(although Lee, Whitney and Abi seem to be getting a storyline)

And for the other side, I think Phil Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell, Shirley Carter, Sharon Watts, Ian Beale and Ben Mitchell are the most overused.

Mas, Carmel, Denise and buster have all had loads of screen time recently.

Donna and Kyle are way way way overused in my opinion, their screentine really needs cutting back

Jay, Abi, Whitney and Lee all have interesting stuff starting/ongoing so I would like them used more.

re over use, I like focus on the legacy families such as the mitchells and beales but there does need to be a happy medium

Underused - Mas, Patrick, Dot and that's about it. I would have said Denise and Carmel but it looks like they will be having lots of screentime soon with the likelihood that Denise & Kush are going to get together. I also would have said Jay & Billy are underused, but Jay's ongoing trauma is about to raise its head again and after Billy turned his back on Les I couldn't care less about seeing what happens to him now.

As for suggestions that Shakil is underused, I beg to differ. The less screen time that he has the better.

Overused - the Mitchells. I do like them, they just seem to have one storyline after another. Would prefer then to just be supporting characters for a little while and have some other families come to the forefront.

Jay, oh and Jay, oh and Jay also. There is of course also Jay, Jay and Jay.

Jamie Borthwick has been a high standard actor for many years, and even though he is getting his meatiest stories to date he is still way behind on appearance account. Ben is top of the count at the moment with 74 episodes yet Jay is on 53

Characters like Masood and Denise have been used to their full extent, they have simply just reached the end of their shelf life. I'd like to see both of them written out. Ten years on the show is not a bad run, but they have been scraping the barrel in terms of storylines for them for some time now. Especially Denise.

Yes, the idea of the character is ok but the actor is useless.

underused characters........

Masood definately - he hasnt had a decent storyline since - well, I cant remember when!

Carmel to a certain extent - she seems to just be there, in the background, not really doing anything........

Belinda - appeared with a bang and has kinda become a fizzle - what the heck what that survey/questionaire bizarro thing she was doing with Kyle

Dot - again, not really had a decent storyline since Nick

Vincent - although the less seen of him the better atm esp if they continue with the ridiculous and stomach turning baby storyline

Masood for sure. Also Johnny, Belinda, Kyle, Vincent and Queen Pearl. They've actually really improved the spreading of storylines recently so this list isn't as long as it would have been a few months ago.

Slightly off topic but has the actors contract got anything to do with the amount of episodes they appear in? I don't think its just down to whether or not they decide to give a certain character a storyline, given certain actors always get more appearances than others, surely this has to be about their contract and pay?

Where is Claudette these days? I thought she would be there for Pam and Les especially.

I want to see Steven get a good meaty s/l of his own. All he does is hang around the boring Beale's or Lauren. Belinda is another one who deserves the right kind of airtime.

This.

What other actor of his age is capable of matching or in fact blowing Steve Mac off the screen?

No one.

I believe if Jay was a generic looking 'hunk' he would never be out of our faces.

Being the Mitchell dogsbody did him no bloody favours whatsoever.

I am amazed that Jamie is still there.

He deserves so much better and would be ideal for big-budget period drama.

Shame on TBTB.

The thing with Jay is that he has never (even in his younger teenage days) shown any fear of King Weeble at all - I would have liked him to become the moral hardman of the square but top villain would do for me.

Musclebound thugs are commonplace (there are several in every working class pub) but those that rise to the top of the criminal underworld have brains and are prepared to do the things others would not contemplate.

If TBTB were prepared to take Jay down this path then so be it.

Anything to give Jamie a hard-hitting long term storyline to get his teeth into.

I get the feeling with Jay that the actor is happy being in the background. He obviously likes to get a big storyline now and again but I think the security of playing a regular background character with a decent income is probably what he wants.

If he had the ambition I'm sure he'd have left 2 or 3 years back but he's probably seen many actors leave hoping to move onto bigger and better things and many simply don't get the big careers they think they are capable of.

Fact is he's just a good actor by soap standards but to class him as one of the best is way off the mark. Big name directors and producers and top talent spotting agents would be urging him to move if he was as good as many make him out to be on here.
