Poor, poor Ben... the writers are really cruel to have done this to him of all people, after everything he went through before he could admit he was gay, and with the father he has.

I agree.

That was the episode in a nutshell.

I would add that Belinda and Claudette always add a couple of outstanding attributes to their scenes - and long may it continue.

Because they don't know what to say. In Ireland it's more likely to be "I'm sorry for your trouble", which is a bit better, and doesn't involve expecting a response, which "Are you alright?" does.

I don't believe Benth. Yes there was homophobic abuse but I do not believe they were Big men and I don't even believe there were 4 of them. He lost his temper and started the violence

But as I remember, that was precisely what Lauren had actually done.

Pam is presented as a very damaged person already, with her complete inability to deal with Len's cross dressing, or put it it in proportion.

I suspected that it would be a homophobic attack but I didn't expect when Ben said Paul died due to him mouthing off.

SO glad that the episode didn't end with Johnny and Ben kissing. I don't think that they will ever get together but if in the future they do, I think Ben will look at the tattoo on his finger and immediately stop.

Someone pointed out that the police said Paul and Ben were a 'young gay couple' instead of a 'young couple'

I kinda want Paul's killer to be someone the viewers know, instead of a stranger who won't be caught (even though it won't be) - I'd be surprised if it turned out to be someone unrelated like Carl White's brother, Adam.”

She said this because they were gay? And therefore an easy target when it came to an attack

Really hope Johnny and Ben isn't where they're heading with this. The old we've got two gay characters so will have them shag each other _ Johnny doesn't even remotely look like Paul (although there's an argument he looks a vaguely like Jay who Ben's shown interest in in the past). Much rather see Johnny and Stephen than Johnny and Ben. Especially as Johnny seemed to suddenly decide to be Ben's stalker now Paul's gone

But Johnny and Ben liked each other way before Paul happened. in fact Paul only happend because Johnny was meant to get with ben but the actor decided to leave

I half agree with this! I can see Pam being frustrated and with the police initially thinking it was ben before finding out it was Paul you can see why she would say she wished it was ben that was dead. But the rest of the stuff she said about Ben being the worst thing that happened to Paul, that as he had a criminal record he was trouble etc that was uncalled for. She could have just ranted at ben about why didn't he protect Paul, what happened to get them into a fight etc but she made it very personal about Ben. considering how she had accepted been into the family and knew how much he made Paul happy I ephod have thought she would have reached out to ben not push him away. I also thought at least a couple of people might have stood up for ben in the pub - whilst they know Pam is grieving they know ben is too and Steven could have stood up for him or even Abi. They didn't have to have a go back just something along the lines of "steady on" or "it's not ben's fault, Pam".

I always knew they'd pair Johnny and Ben after Paul left, I just didn't expect it to start happening the episode after Paul's death! They couldn't have waited a week or so?

I hope Johnny/Ben isn't a thing. Johnny is a worse actor than Paul was for the majority of his time.

Well I've been gripped this week. What a harrowing tale it's been. I was nearly in tears tonight. The actors portraying Ben, Jay, Pam and Les have been wonderful.

Another great episode. Great stuff by Lin, Roger and Harry. There was a great sense of community in tonight's episode. A real raw depiction of grief.

Damn. Poor Ben. I wasn't sure whether he was holding back, or the police were trying to coax him into making it a hate crime, but no wonder he feels so guilty...

And if Pam ever found out, then she'd be even more, sadly, un/justified, in what she said to him.

Then again, it wouldn't not be in Ben's character for him not to react the way he said either.

Glad Johnny and Ben didn't kiss [as I feared they might] at the end. Although I'm sure it'll happen in the next few weeks...
