Hey, I have tried google but found very mixed messages. I currently have an injured bird in my garden, it appears to have a damaged wing and is unable to fly. At the moment I have just left it and it is moving around the garden. My only worry is that I have two dogs that will eventually need to go into the back garden but I really don't want them to kill it or cause it any more pain... Please help?

Hi All i can say is try to find a local bird club who will try to help, I saved a baby wood pigeon last week and got it back to life when near dead, The RSPCA did come out which i was surprised at but the chat told me in not so many words it would be put to sleep with no attempt of help. I wished i had found help but though i had done my best.Good luck and thanks for trying ,,

Are you able to get near the bird to pick it up? If so, maybe you could put it in a large box with some food and water and leave it somewhere quiet and safe. Birds can sometimes recover from injured wings if they just have somewhere safe from predators. I found a dove once with an injured wing. I took it to the vet and the vet checked the wing and said it would heal itself - just to keep the bird quiet and safe. The wing did heal and (after a second check at the vet) we let the dove fly happily away a week or so later. Of course it depends how serious the injury is, but I think it's important to give the bird a chance.

If you can't catch the bird, perhaps you could keep yout dogs on the lead when they go into the garden this evening?

I do have some luck as our garden is currently under construction so everything is very muddy so little mite should find it easy to find worms and bugs. I did make an attempt at catching it but it kept moving and I didn't want to stress it out any more. So with the material i have laying around garden i made a shelter around it, it's quite large so it has space to hop around, that will hopefully keep it safe from the rain and foxes. Hopefully it will also proved some darkness and calm.

Thank you for the suggestion of taking my dogs out in the garden on there leads, such a simple suggestion that I failed to think of.

Whats solare said. You are also better off googling local wildlife rescues than the RSPCA. Found a fledgling last year that had fallen from a rooftop nest and after phoning various places I found a great rescue reasonably near that would actually take it in as I knew it was too young to survive on its own.
