I personally do not. Lets face it, he managed to put Heather's family and friends through this and worse, so I could care less for his feelings.

It's a absolutely dreadful thing for anyone to go through. But I dislike Ben so intensely that I find it hard to feel sorry for him. He's a nasty piece of work and murderer to boot.

However, Ben blaming himself for Paul's death has the potential to be a very powerful story.

Nope.

I feel sorry for Pam and Les though.

No, can't stand the character. About time he got a taste of his own medicine.

I do feel sorry for him. He is the way he is because he was desperate for his dad's love and approval and so tries to be the hard man we know he isn't. heather's death was tragic but he didn't mean to kill her and has served his time. Whilst he is not the nicest character, there are moments when we see he is trying to change and people like Jay and Paul bring out his better qualities. To lose someone you love is devastating and whilst he may have goaded the yobs he couldn't have known it would end up with Paul dying.

Yes because its Phil who has made him the mess he is. He has been the one to force him to fight to prove he's Mitchell enough and also Gavins fault for deciding he couldn't stay with Kathy and force her to leave him.

If it was Phils feelings...He deserves it but Ben was just finally accepting and embracing it when this happens. Alot of it is how his dad raised him.

Not particularly. He's only known Paul five minutes whereas his poor grandparents have known him all his life. It's not long ago that he locked his dying father out of his own home, tried to drive his sister away and mugged his own niece.

I agree except for the part about ben goading the thugs. The thugs began it with those sick remarks. Yes it would perhaps have been safer for Ben to have followed Paul's advice and ignored it but we don't know that the thugs wouldn't have followed and attacked anyway. Also we know that Ben is temperamental, hot headed and emotional - even if Ben shouted back or threw the first punch Ben would never have beaten anyone to death and would have responded to hurtful abuse and provocation whereas those thugs were evil and targeted Ben and Paul purely for homophobic reasons.
