Pay-as-you-go tethering on O2 and GiffGaff?
Hi all,
Do O2 and GiffGaff allow tethering on pay-as-you-go? Many thanks. |

Giffgaff do. Quote:
Great news. Tethering is permitted on all our plans that have a limited allowance.
Members can tether with the Always On goodybag for the first 6GB of data. After members have reached the 6GB limit, tethering will no longer be permitted. |

Thank you for the replies.
Can I just check, please, that what I want to do is classed as tethering? After much deliberation, I have recently bought a Microsoft Lumia 550 running Windows 10 Mobile on O2 PAYG. My old Nokia phone has a GiffGaff SIM and I need to decided whether to stay with GiffGaff or move to O2. I am assuming that the O2 Lumia phone will accept the GiffGaff SIM. The Lumia 550 / Windows 10 Mobile has a feature to create a Wi-Fi hotspot (which is connected to the 4G data on the SIM) which I would like to use with my iPod Touch for light use, as the iPod has a number of apps that are not available on Windows Mobile. Is using the Wi-Fi hotspot feature considered tethering? Thanks again. |

Not quite. In theory you could tether over a USB or Bluetooth connection for example.

Tethering is where you connect device/s, such as laptops, tablets, iPods etc. to your mobile phone to share its data allowance to connect to the Internet.

I was answering the post that said wifi hotspot is classed as tethering which makes it sound as if they are 2 separate things. Wifi hotspot is tethering, it really is that simple. It's just a name made up to sound more appealing to the casual user. |

But tethering is not necessarily using a wi-fi hotspot. So it really is not quite as simple.

The cleaning and maintenance apps on my samsung galaxy tab 3 7 inch with a sim slot thinks that it's a smartphone, so popping in your standard O2 Pay and Go sim will not flag up that it's a tablet.
