BBC Four will change multiplexes on the 27th of July for the olympics then return to a different slot afterwards.

You will lose BBC Four HD, possibly permanently, on that date if you don't retune. Some equipment will do this automatically.

I really don't understand where it can be moving to. For the Olympics it moves to PSB3, and then it is moving somewhere else so not PSB3 or COM7. It can only be COM8, but why move off of COM7? It makes no sense right now.

BBC Olympics HD is taking BBC4 HD's old slot, so maybe C4 are taking that over for the Paralympics? It still doesn't make an awful lot of sense though, as that stream could be moved to COM8 if that's the case.

The "no material difference" comment is interesting, because it suggests BBC Four HD could be moving from COM7 to COM8 after the Olympics.

Edit: beaten to it!

That was my interpretation of it but I could well be wrong.

Retunemon. Gotta catch 'em all!

I really can't be bothered to re-tune to catch the move of BBC4HD to a different mux if it's just going to be used to cover the Olympics. I understand the need to cover the games, but with all of the other capacity clearly available (see other forum posts here) I fail to see the need to move the channel, nor the need to ram it full with games coverage. There is life outside sport, FFS, BBC, and there are a lot of people in viewer land, me included, that won't be bothering with the coverage.

Every time we get a major sporting event the BBC seems fit to try and force it down our throats. To add insult to injury, BBC4 HD will move again after the Olympics are over, requiring a further re-tune, and that move assumes that you can get where it will finally end-up, COM8 being bandied about a fair bit.

Luckily, for the lead-up to the games, there's nothing on BBC4HD that I want to see in the next couple of weeks, and I can always use Freesat if the need arises.

At the end of the day, we're only viewers, and our opinions clearly don't matter that much, if at all. Thank God for Amazon Prime .....

It will be staying in its new location (COM8) after the Olympics.

Thank the lord !!!

I still have awful trouble with COM7.
Great signal for a couple of weeks then it disappears completely for a couple of weeks.. then its back again.
Something must be interfering but I can't work out what.

It means another pain in the arse of having to retune freeview to keep annoying the viewer if on HD

HD receivers are supposed to do it automatIcally. Mine do, by and large, with a few glitches. Retunes have never bothered me anyway.

Most of the time I get them added by the TV itself and a button press if the channel disappears, it only seems a retune after a mux change or frequency change.

It's still pain in the arse doing it every few weeks.

My Sonys add new channels if you select an existing channel on the same Mux.

So for these new streams I just had to select QVC+1 HD / QVC Beauty HD (on COM8) and they got added.

Yes I'm on Divis (NI). Any other reports yet of change of multiplex?

The moves took place at about 12.00 on Crystal Palace (Change log updated).

BBC4 HD appeared from Dover (no COMS 7 or 8 here). BBC Red Button extras now disappeared so in fact we will have less coverage of the Olympics in common with all Freeview Light and non Coms 7/8 areas. Not that I'm bothered.

BBC seems to see Cable/ Satellite as the important media providers nowadays.

It's not the BBC's decision to provide limited coverage for COM7/8

My Sony TVs automatically retuned this afternoon while I had to retune manually my PVRs.

My Humax 1800t automatically updated and wiped my recording schedule. Thanks, Humax for not giving me the choice and whoever decided to implement this annoyance. Now, what did I schedule to record?

Smart retunes were only made mandatory in D-book 8. Humax have not released a d-book 8 receiver or recorder yet. Even the HDR-4000T was d-book 7 despite including freeview play.

Same here. I'm holding-off re-tuning my Panasonic and Humax PVRs though as I live in a transmitter overlap area, so have to manually re-tune everything, which is a right chore. Having to re-tune again in less than a month's time is a right PITA, so it can wait.

I will be waiting post-Olympics to retune my Digitalstream to tidy up the new channel allocations. I use my Freesat box for BBC4HD or if necessary can use my Youview box which does automatically take care of channel changes.
