CS: Rivalry between Sally and Yasmeen
Do you find it entertaining, embarrassing at their age, cringeworthy, or just silly?
Whose side are you on?

Cringeworthy... They have made a caricature out of Sally with the council stuff and the snobbery.... They've already done it to the Steve McDonald character

Sally has been turned into a ridiculous character, whereas Yasmeen goads her a lot but shows a serious side at times too. I found the rivalry amusing at first but i feel that some of the writing for Sally has gone on to be borderline ridiculous now (so I guess i'm team Yasmeen at the moment, although hopefully a friendship will blossom between the two).

They desperately need to bring both of them back down to earth. The chat between them last night shows how great the two characters work in neutral mode, so lets send them that way. Sally and Yasmeen has the potential to be a great friendship if the writers can see paast their supposed rivalry,

Well it is not exactly a rivalry, as they are friends now

Can't stand the way Sally shoehorns the word 'bob' into every sentence. I'll just bob round to Gail's, bob that in the conservatory; Tim just bob round to Dev's for some wine etc etc.

Wasn't it something to do with their gardens? Yasmeen was building the orangery which put Sally's nose out of joint as it would be more fancy than her conservatory. I can't remember but it was definitely garden related though

As I've akready said on another, thread the direction I would like Sally to take is to get her head out from up her own a**e, stop sucking up to any Tom, Dick or whatever the mayor's name was (forgotten already it was so riveting) who she thinks can help her social climbing fantasies & take control of her own fate!!
Tough, no nonsense Sally is formidable indeed & she needs to be given a council project she feels strongly about that sets her at odds with these people in power, not fawning over them like a pathetic lapdog!! If her new found friendship with Yasmeen has them working together as a team, so much the better!! This way her snobby tendencies will at least be given some basis as she climbs the council ladder under her own steam, Tim will go back to being proud of her instead of embarrassed by her & we as viewers will get something of the real Sally back instead of this pathetic charicature of Hyacinth Bucket we've had for so long now!! If and when this happens I will be able to overlook her constant looking down on & talking down to people as there will be some basis for it & she will become something akin to great past characters like Annie Walker!! |

I couldn't believe Yasmeen had so few guests at her party as it was clearly a much more classy do. It must be like living next door to the Clampetts having Sally and Tim as neighbours.

I find it entertaining - in real life, you have neighbours who think they are above everyone else too, and aren't afraid to demonstrate it. Even my mother has a neighbour we all secretly call 'Mrs Bucket'. She's not a bad person by any means, but her husband is definitely nicer.
In terms of Sally, I don't mind her over reaching, but the way she's become a councillor without having opinions or beliefs is remarkable. I would love them to explore Sally as a real councillor, rather than exploring 'Sally with a title'. I mean, it's absolutely stupid for them not to link the fact Sally is a councillor to Kylie's death - they even had the mayor around and it wasn't mentioned she was murdered yards from where they were all sat. They had a newspaper article, but how nice would it have been if Sally had spoken to the press and done a touching tribute? I know it's not the same, but I remember the days of Alf Roberts. They just need to give Sally some credibility. Sally is usually brought down a peg or two when she gets what she wants, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. |

Didn’t one of them pinch a bit of the other's garden too?

Yasmeen took the chicken remark personally and that started it.

Sally's snobby, she'd fall out with anyone not just Yasmeen...
She already had clashes with Anna, Beth, Jenny, Norris & Janice Battersby etc. Even her old mate Gail rolls her eyes at her social climbing attempts. I won't forget that time Sally was smugly sitting down in her conservatory only to look up at fag ends thrown on the roof by Teresa Morton! |

Sally was always strait-laced rather than snobby, but certainly when she worked for
'Mr Roberts', she was basically nice. If she was a genuine snob, she would have insisted on moving to the suburbs years ago. She used to be a smarter character, as well. Anyone would half a brain would realise that if all that sucking up to the bosses at Underworld was getting you nowhere then it would be wise to just give it up. |
